Wood is gathered by chopping trees and bushes or picking up ground branches, and it also drops from Greydwarves. It is the base material for early building, fuel for fires, and the input for Coal in a Charcoal Kiln. You will never stop needing it, so a good Meadows base sits near plenty of trees.
