Black Forest

The Black Forest is the second step in Valheim, a dark pine biome wedged between the friendly Meadows and the deadly Swamp. It is where the game opens up: copper and tin for bronze gear, Core Wood for your first real builds, and The Elder waiting at the end.

What Lives Here

The Black Forest is more dangerous than the Meadows, mostly because of numbers and one big threat.

• Greydwarves swarm at night and pour out of spawner nests. Manageable one at a time, ugly in a pack.
• Greydwarf Brutes and Shamans hit harder and drop the Ancient Seeds you need for The Elder.
• Skeletons crawl out of Burial Chambers.
• Trolls are the real danger. A single Troll can flatten your base and one-shot an unarmored player.

What You Mine Here

The Black Forest is your bronze-age supply run:

1. Copper Ore comes from large Copper Deposits, the mossy rock mounds. Mine them with the Antler Pickaxe from Eikthyr.
2. Tin sits in shiny silver patches along the water's edge.
3. Smelt copper and tin together for Bronze, your first crafted metal armor and tools.
4. Core Wood from the pine trees builds the smelter, the kiln, and the first sturdy structures.

Clear a couple of Burial Chambers while you are here for Surtling Cores and Ancient Seeds, and you will leave the Black Forest fully kitted for the Swamp.
