The Iron Mace is the weapon you build before fighting Bonemass. Many Swamp and Mountain enemies resist slash and pierce but take full blunt damage, and the Mace is the cleanest source of it.
Crafting
Forge it from Iron (smelted from Scrap Iron in the Sunken Crypts) plus Wood and Leather Scraps.
Why It Matters
Bonemass is highly resistant to slash and pierce and weak to blunt, so the Iron Mace roughly doubles your damage against it compared to a sword. It is the single biggest reason that fight goes from impossible to easy.
