Valheim Wiki

252 pages

Valheim is a brutal, beautiful Viking survival game set in a procedurally generated purgatory. You start with nothing but your fists on the shore of the Meadows, and you claw your way up through ten biomes, building bases, sailing oceans, and toppling giant bosses until you reach the volcanic Ashlands. This wiki is your map of that whole journey, from your first campfire to the final fight.

How Valheim Plays

At its core Valheim is a loop of explore, gather, craft, and fight. You harvest materials, build crafting stations to unlock better gear, then use that gear to survive a harder biome and harvest its better materials. Combat is deliberate and stamina-based: you dodge, block, and parry rather than spam attacks, and your food loadout sets your health and stamina pools, so what you eat matters as much as what you wield.

The world is gated by bosses. Each biome holds one of the seven Forsaken, and each drops a key item that opens the next stage. That makes the progression order the spine of the entire game.

The Progression in Short

You begin in the Meadows and beat Eikthyr for the Antler Pickaxe, which lets you mine copper and tin in the Black Forest to forge bronze. The Elder hands you the Swamp Key, the Swamp gives you iron, and Bonemass drops the Wishbone so you can find silver in the Mountains. From there it is Moder, the Plains and Yagluth, the Mistlands and The Queen, and finally the Ashlands and Fader. Our boss pages break down every fight, and the interactive progress tracker lets you tick the whole run off as you go.

Combat, Food, and Building

Three systems carry you through the game:

  • Combat. Match your damage type to the enemy. Bonemass shrugs off swords but folds to the blunt Iron Mace, and silver weapons like Frostner cover almost everything. Watch our creature pages for each enemy's weakness.
  • Food. Your three food slots decide your health, stamina, and (later) Eitr. Picking the right meals for your biome is the single biggest survivability lever in the game.
  • Building. From a simple Meadows hut to a cliffside fortress, building is half the appeal. Workbenches and other stations need a roof and shelter to work, and structural integrity means tall builds need real support.

Playing Solo or With Friends

Valheim is great alone and chaotic with a crew of up to ten. You can dive in solo, host a session straight from your own game, or use a crossplay join code to play across PC and Xbox. Our how to play guide walks through character creation, solo play, Steam co-op, and crossplay step by step.

Using This Wiki

Use the quick-access bar at the top to jump to bosses, creatures, weapons, or any other category, or the left-hand menu inside any page to browse the whole game without losing your place. Every boss, biome, weapon, and resource has its own page with an at-a-glance infobox, so you can check a drop or a weakness in seconds and get back to playing.

Valheim FAQ

How many bosses are in Valheim?

Valheim has seven Forsaken bosses, one per biome: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, and Fader. Each drops a key item or power that unlocks the next stage of the game.

What order should I fight the Valheim bosses in?

Follow the biome path: Eikthyr in the Meadows, The Elder in the Black Forest, Bonemass in the Swamp, Moder in the Mountains, Yagluth in the Plains, The Queen in the Mistlands, and Fader in the Ashlands. The boss order is also the gear order, so craft the new tier before pushing the next biome.

Can you play Valheim solo?

Yes. Valheim is fully playable solo. Create a private world and play at your own pace. You can open the same world up to friends later without losing any progress.

Is Valheim crossplay?

Yes. Valheim supports crossplay between PC (Steam) and Xbox. Enable crossplay when you start a world and share the join code so friends on either platform can drop into the same game.

How many players can play Valheim together?

Up to 10 players can share a single Valheim world at once, whether you host the session yourself or run a dedicated server.

What is the hardest biome in Valheim?

The Mistlands and Ashlands are the toughest. The Mistlands hides The Queen and demands Eitr-based magic gear, while the Ashlands is a volcanic siege zone and home to the final boss, Fader.

Do you need a dedicated server to play Valheim with friends?

No. You can host a session directly from your own game while you play. A dedicated server is only needed if you want the world online around the clock when no single player is on.

Is Valheim still being updated?

Yes. Valheim is still in active development, with major biome and content updates landing over time. The Ashlands is the newest region, and more is on the roadmap.
