It's Official: Valheim Leaves Early Access on September 9

After more than five years in early access, Iron Gate Studio has confirmed the moment the Viking survival community has waited for. On June 7, 2026, the studio announced that Valheim 1.0 launches on September 9, 2026, alongside the game's final biome: the Deep North.

This is the last major content update on the early-access roadmap. With 1.0, Valheim's game-designed content is considered complete, and only minor updates are expected afterward. Five years, tens of millions of players, and one of the most respected survival sandboxes in PC gaming finally crosses the finish line.

What Is the Deep North?

The Deep North is the frozen endgame biome that sits beyond the Ashlands in progression. Expect:

  • Glacial peaks, frozen tundras, snowy mesas, and frozen fields
  • Relentless snowstorms that punish unprepared Vikings
  • Vast abandoned villages and decrepit castles to explore
  • Underground dungeons packed with new threats
  • The final boss of Valheim, the capstone of the entire progression

This is the coldest, most hostile corner of the tenth world, and it's built to test everything you've learned from the Meadows to the Ashlands.

New Enemies

The Deep North introduces a roster of fresh threats:

  • Gammeltrolls: ancient, frostbitten troll variants
  • Elakingar: new northern predators
  • Dungeon imps: found in the biome's underground complexes, some wielding long claws in melee, others slinging magic

Pair these with the existing freezing-damage mechanics of the cold biomes and the Deep North becomes a genuine survival gauntlet.

New Weapons & Base Pieces

The update ships with new craftable gear forged from materials found only in the Deep North. The standout so far:

  • A hook-launching arbalest: fire a hook to pull yourself upward, opening up vertical traversal and mountaineering across glacial terrain
  • New base-building pieces themed to the frozen north
  • New weapons crafted from northern materials

The Big One: PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2

For the first time ever, Valheim is leaving the PC ecosystem. The 1.0 launch brings the game to:

  • PlayStation 5 (first time)
  • Nintendo Switch 2 (first time)
  • Plus the existing PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Critically, full crossplay is confirmed across all platforms. Your Steam crew can finally raid the Deep North alongside friends on PS5 and Switch 2, with no platform walls.

What This Means for Dedicated Servers

A full launch plus three new platforms means one thing: a flood of new and returning players. If you run a server, expect your crew to come back for the final biome, and to bring friends from console.

Now is the time to make sure your world is ready. A dedicated server keeps your save online 24/7 so the group can prep gear, stockpile resources, and explore the Deep North without waiting on a host to log in.

Countdown to 1.0

Mark the calendar: September 9, 2026. The Deep North is coming, the final boss awaits, and crossplay finally unites every Viking.
