Valheim's Console Pool Gets Much Bigger
Iron Gate has confirmed that Valheim 1.0 launches on September 9, 2026, and the launch is not just a PC milestone. The full release also adds PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, joining the existing PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S versions.
The important detail for groups is crossplay: Iron Gate says there will be full crossplay between all platforms when 1.0 arrives. That means the Deep North launch is the first time a Valheim group can realistically span Steam, Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2 without splitting worlds by platform.
What Full Crossplay Means
For players, this should make group planning much simpler:
- PC and console friends can share one world. Nobody has to start over because one player is on PS5 or Switch 2.
- Dedicated servers become more useful. A persistent world avoids the usual "host has to be online" problem when your group spans platforms and time zones.
- Returning players can bring new console friends. The September launch will likely pull old crews back in while adding first-time players on new hardware.
If you are setting up a new world, use the next few months to decide whether you want a fresh Deep North save or a long-running world with old bases, portals, and resources already in place.
Server Admins Should Prepare for Returning Crews
The 1.0 launch will combine three traffic spikes at once: the final biome, the end of Early Access, and two new console audiences. For anyone running a community world, that means it is time to audit the basics:
- Back up the world before every major patch.
- Check mod compatibility if you use Valheim Plus or server-side tools.
- Clean up old portals, unused bases, and dead storage rooms.
- Make sure everyone knows whether the Deep North will be explored on an old world or a fresh seed.
- Confirm your server supports crossplay and has enough capacity for returning players.

Why This Matters for the Deep North
The Deep North is the final biome in Valheim's progression. Iron Gate has framed 1.0 as the endpoint of the original Early Access roadmap, with new enemies, weapons, and base-building goals arriving alongside the full launch. That makes crossplay more than a convenience feature: it is the thing that lets more groups finish Valheim together.
If your crew has been waiting for the "real" launch before committing to a world, September 9 is the date to plan around.
