Logs, Trees & the Axe Ladder

Wood runs on the same rule as ore: the logging axe tier decides what you can cut, and no Woodcutting level gates any tree. The axe ladder matches the metal ladder, so every smithing step you take is also a woodcutting step.

Notice that four of the nine do not give logs at all. Blightwood, bloodwood sap and hollow bark are crafting reagents that happen to come out of things shaped like trees, and a dead tree yielding bark rather than firewood is the one that sends people hunting for a log pile that does not exist. Anima trees are a fifth case, dropping anima-infused bark, though the wiki lists no axe requirement for them.

The iron axe is the big unlock: it opens three of the nine in one step, including both reagent trees. If you are deciding what to smith first and you build anything, iron logging axe before iron pickaxe is usually the better order.

The wiki's axe table lists a thorny irit root at the steel tier, but it does not appear in the same page's choppable-resources table and no yield is given, so it is left out of the table above. The anima tree's axe requirement is likewise unpublished.
