Kafka and Robin are coming to New Eridu in Version 3.4, and the version opens on December 2, 2026. That is the whole confirmed story, and it is a lot thinner than the week of headlines around it suggests. HoYoverse has not said whether either of them is playable. It has not said what element they are, what Specialty they fill, what they cost, or whether a single Polychrome needs to change hands to get one.

So this page does two jobs. It separates the four things that were actually announced from the six that people are asserting anyway, and it works out what the next 33 days are worth if you want to arrive with pulls in the bank.

What HoYoverse actually showed on October 9

The reveal was the tail end of the Version 3.3 "Journey to the Sky" Special Program, which aired Friday, October 9, 2026. Siliconera puts it at roughly the 33 minute mark, after the broadcast had finished with Phoenix, Severian and the Halloween events.

It was a teaser, not a trailer. Robin hums a few bars. Kafka cuts across her with the same one word she uses to open every Honkai: Star Rail cutscene she has ever appeared in: "Listen." Then a static piece of art, both characters redrawn in Zenless Zone Zero's style, and the stream ended.

That is it. No gameplay, no kit card, no attribute icon, no banner mock-up. HoYoverse has done drip marketing for every Agent since launch, and none of that drip has started for these two.

Where December 2 comes from

Almost every outlet covering this has written "end of November or early December" and left it there. The schedule is tighter than that, and it does not require a leak.

Our own ZZZ banner tracker carries the 3.3 Phase 2 close as December 1, 2026 at 14:59 GMT+8. That is not arithmetic: bannerhistory.app's channel table, Game8's page for Severian's signature W-Engine Incarcerating Grip, and zzz-build.com all publish the same close, and the only source arguing for the 2nd labels its own dates as estimates.

ZZZ has never left a gap between the last phase of one version and the opening of the next. Version 3.2 Phase 2 closed October 20 at 14:59 GMT+8 and 3.3 opened on the morning of October 21. Apply that to a December 1 close and 3.4 opens December 2.

The 42 day cadence agrees from the other direction. 3.3 opened October 21; 42 days later is December 2. Two independent routes, same day, and no leaked client string involved.

One caveat worth keeping: a published phase close is a strong signal, not a patch note. HoYoverse announces update days through its own maintenance notice, usually about a week out, and that notice is the thing that makes December 2 official rather than merely inevitable.

Every "Kafka will be an Electric Anomaly Agent" take you have read this month is somebody reading her Honkai: Star Rail kit and transposing it. It is a reasonable guess. It is not information, and two of the last three ZZZ debuts shipped with a different W-Engine name than the pre-release client strings promised, which is the smaller version of the same mistake.

The free-unit question, and the only two data points that bear on it

"Will Kafka be free" is the most-asked question about this collaboration and the one with the least evidence behind it. There is no announcement. There is precedent, and the precedent is unusually consistent.

HoYoverse has run two prior crossovers of this shape, both Fate/stay night in Honkai: Star Rail, and both handed out a free limited 5-star:

  • Honkai: Star Rail's own Version 3.4 gave Archer to every Trailblazer outright. (Yes, two different games have a 3.4 in this story. This one is Star Rail's, and it is years behind us.)
  • Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.4 ran Part 2 and let players claim either Archer or Gilgamesh through the Fate Contract: Renewal event, with the materials to take the unit to Level 60 and level its Traces. We wrote up which of the two to take when it landed.

Two for two is a pattern, not a guarantee, and the direction of travel differs here: those were a licensed property arriving in HoYoverse's game, while this is HoYoverse trading with itself. A free giveaway is cheaper to justify when you are paying an external licensor than when you are moving your own character between your own games.

Plan for paying. Be pleased if you are wrong.

What two collab Agents would cost you

If both run as ordinary limited Exclusive Channel Agents, the arithmetic is the one on our Polychrome and pity page, doubled:

OutcomePullsPolychrome
Both at average luck200 to 22032,000 to 35,200
Both at hard pity, losing both 50/50s36057,600

Against that, a diligent free account earns 80 to 100 pulls across a six week version, which works out to roughly 44 to 55 pulls between today and December 2 if you are starting from empty.

So the squeeze is real and it is specific. A free account that banks everything from here arrives at 3.4 with about half of one guaranteed Agent, before the 50/50. Whatever you are holding right now is the larger half of your 3.4 budget.

And the competition for it is live. Phoenix holds Phase 1 until November 11, then Severian and a Norma Hollowell rerun hold Phase 2 right up to the December 1 close. There is no quiet stretch before the crossover. The last pull window of 3.3 ends the day before 3.4 begins.

The other half of the trade

The exchange runs both ways, on separate schedules. Ellen Joe and Astra Yao go to Honkai: Star Rail in Version 4.8, teased during HSR's September preview broadcast.

Ellen Joe is the better documented of the pair. HoYoverse's teaser art on October 27 confirmed she stays Ice in HSR and arrives as a 5-star Destruction unit, a multi-target DPS. Astra Yao has art and nothing else: no Path, no element, no rarity. Anything you see pairing her with Quantum or Harmony is a leak wearing a confident font.

HSR 4.8 is expected around December 22 or 23, though sources disagree on the day and HoYoverse has confirmed neither. Treat it as three weeks after ZZZ 3.4 rather than a date.

If you are coming at this from the ZZZ side, Ellen Joe is the Agent a lot of accounts already have built. Our Ellen Joe build guide covers the original, and the HSR banner tracker is where the 4.8 channels will land once they are dated.

What the next 33 days are actually for

  1. Count your pity, not your Polychrome. An account 70 pulls into the Exclusive Channel is in a completely different position than one at zero with the same balance. The game shows the number.
  2. Decide about Severian before November 11, not during 3.4. He is a Wind Attack S-Rank with a published kit and a three week window. Kafka and Robin are two names and a still image. Spending on the known quantity is defensible; spending on it by accident because you did not plan is not.
  3. Do not pre-commit to a unit with no Attribute. The single most expensive habit in this game is budgeting for a silhouette. Check where the roster actually stands on the ZZZ tier list and who to pull first.
  4. Collect the free currency. Codes expire fast and the 3.3 batch is still live on the ZZZ codes page. A 300 Polychrome livestream code is close to two pulls for thirty seconds of typing.
  5. Watch for the 3.4 Special Program. HoYoverse airs these about a week to ten days before a version opens, which puts the 3.4 broadcast somewhere in the November 20 to 25 window. That is when kits, Attributes, phase order and any giveaway get announced, and it is the first moment any of this becomes plannable.

We have added both characters to the upcoming units index as revealed and unverified, which is exactly what they are. This page gets rewritten the hour the 3.4 program airs.
