Anomaly damage in Zenless Zone Zero does not crit. That has been true since launch, it is why Anomaly builds stack Proficiency and Mastery instead of CRIT Rate, and it is the single clearest line between the Anomaly and Attack archetypes.
Phoenix Reffaella appears to erase it, for the whole squad.
That is the reason to care about her, and it is also the reason to be careful: the mechanic above comes from datamined beta builds, not from HoYoverse. This guide keeps those two things in separate boxes, because the last two pre-release build guides on this site did not, and both were wrong for weeks.
What HoYoverse has actually confirmed
Short list, because the official reveal on September 12, 2026 was drip marketing rather than a kit showcase:
| Confirmed | |
|---|---|
| Rarity | S-Rank |
| Attribute | Fire |
| Specialty | Anomaly |
| Faction | Krampus Compliance Authority |
| Version | 3.3 |
That is genuinely all of it. Abilities, W-Engine, release date and banner phase were not part of the reveal. Version 3.3 itself is dated: HoYoverse's own 3.2 notice states 3.2 runs 42 days and ends 2026-10-21 at 06:00 UTC+8, and every ZZZ version begins when the last one ends, which puts Phoenix in Phase 1 from October 21. The exact banner dates arrive with the 3.3 Special Program.
Everything below this line is beta data. Treat it as direction, not as numbers to build around.
The part that changes a rule rather than a number
Her Core passive, per datamined builds, works in two steps.
First, when any squad member deals Attribute Anomaly damage, the enemy becomes Weakened for 20 seconds. Second, Anomaly damage dealt to a Weakened enemy can critically hit, at a base 30% CRIT Rate and 15% CRIT DMG.
Read that again with the word "any" in mind. This is not Phoenix critting. This is Phoenix handing the ability to crit to everyone on the team who applies an anomaly, which is a different and much larger thing. Every Anomaly Agent you already own would gain a damage layer the archetype has never had.
Her Additional Ability then scales the payoff by team composition: with 2 or 3 Anomaly characters or faction-matched teammates, the CRIT DMG against Weakened enemies rises to 25% or 40%.
There is also a scaling line worth flagging: past a reported 145 Anomaly Mastery threshold, every additional point adds 0.7% CRIT Rate. If that survives to release it reshapes Anomaly stat priority, because Mastery stops being a buildup stat and starts being a crit stat. That is the single number in this guide most worth watching, and the one most likely to be tuned.
The revive, and why it reads better than it plays
Beta builds give her a Resurrection effect: after Phoenix is defeated and leaves the field, she can be swapped back in at 50% Max HP, once every 300 seconds.
Five minutes is a long cooldown, and the condition is that you already died. In Shiyu Defense and Deadly Assault, where runs are short and scored, a revive on a five-minute timer is a safety net for one mistake per cycle rather than a sustain plan. Useful, not load-bearing. Do not let it move your pull decision.
What you can prefarm today, and what you cannot
This is the genuinely actionable part, because it does not depend on unreleased numbers.
Safe to bank now:
- Polychrome. Phase 1 of a new version is the worst possible time to be short. Current redeem codes are free pulls and take a minute.
- Fire Anomaly disc substats, in the general sense: Anomaly Proficiency and Anomaly Mastery pieces are useful to any Fire Anomaly Agent regardless of how her kit lands.
- General ascension materials. Agent promotion and skill materials are attribute-wide, not unit-specific.
Do not commit yet:
- A specific 4-piece disc set. Nobody has one. Every published "best discs for Phoenix" right now is extrapolation from her archetype, not from testing.
- A signature W-Engine plan. Her signature has not been revealed at all.
- Crit-stat discs on your existing Anomaly units. The Mastery-to-CRIT-Rate line is the least settled thing here, and rebuilding a working Anomaly Agent around a beta number is how you waste a month of farming.
If you want the mechanics underneath all of this, the anomaly system guide covers how buildup, Disorder and the attribute anomalies actually work, and it is the thing that will still be true after her kit changes.
Who she plausibly slots next to
Her Additional Ability keys off Anomaly teammates or faction matches, which gives two directions:
- Anomaly stacking, the obvious one: pair her with the Anomaly Agents you already run so the Weakened crit layer has as many triggers as possible. Remielle is the off-field Anomaly unit most accounts already have.
- Krampus Compliance Authority, the faction route: Zhao, Dialyn, Banyue and Promeia are her faction, and Promeia's first rerun is live on the current banner schedule until October 20. If faction matching does turn out to satisfy her Additional Ability, an Ice Anomaly Promeia alongside a Fire Anomaly Phoenix is both a faction match and a Disorder pairing.
That second point is a hypothesis built on a leaked condition, not advice to pull Promeia. It is here because the rerun closes the day before 3.3 opens, which makes it a decision you have to make before you have the information.
How much of this could still change
A fair amount. The articles carrying her beta kit describe it as directional and subject to change, and ZZZ has a track record of moving Anomaly numbers between beta and live. What is very unlikely to change is the shape: S-Rank, Fire, Anomaly, Krampus, 3.3, and a Core passive built around letting Anomaly damage crit. What is likely to move is every percentage on this page.
This guide is marked NEEDS_REVIEW on the entire kit section until the 3.3 Special Program and launch, and it will be rewritten against the live build rather than quietly patched. In the meantime, the tier list ranks what you can actually play today, and /gacha/upcoming tracks the rest of the 3.3 lineup, including Severian Lowell in Phase 2.
Sources: the September 12, 2026 drip-marketing reveal confirming S-Rank, Fire, Anomaly and Krampus Compliance Authority is HoYoverse's own, reported by GameDaily among others; the reveal did not include abilities or dates. Version 3.3's October 21 start derives from HoYoverse's Version 3.2 update notice, which states 3.2 runs 42 days and ends 2026-10-21 06:00 UTC+8. All kit mechanics, the Weakened status, the 30% CRIT Rate and 15% CRIT DMG baselines, the 25%/40% Additional Ability scaling, the 145 Anomaly Mastery threshold with 0.7% CRIT Rate per point, and the 300-second 50% HP resurrection come from datamined beta builds reported by gamemarket.gg and corroborated by other leak aggregators, and are explicitly described by those sources as not final. No disc set, W-Engine or team recommendation is asserted here as fact because none has been published from testing. Last verified October 5, 2026.
