There is a version of Zenless Zone Zero you can play for twenty minutes a day and never fall behind, and a version where you log in for two hours and still leak rewards. The difference is not skill or spending. It is knowing which handful of tasks actually pay, doing them in the right order, and guarding the weekly resets like appointments. The daily loop below takes about five minutes. The weekly list takes one focused sitting. Everything else in New Eridu is optional.
The one hard rule: never cap your Battery
Your entire daily economy hangs on Battery Charge, ZZZ's stamina. It refills at 1 point every 6 minutes up to a 240 cap, so a full bar regenerates in roughly a day. If you let it sit at 240, every minute past that is progress you will never get back. That single fact drives the whole routine: log in, dump your Battery into whatever you are farming, and the rest is cleanup.
Battery goes into a small number of nodes, and they are not equal. A rough spend priority while you are still building an account:
| Priority | Spend Battery on | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Notorious Hunt (discounted weekly boss clears) | Best rewards-per-Battery in the game, and the discount does not roll over |
| 2 | Drive Disc / W-Engine farming for a character you are actively gearing | Endgame power lives in your discs; see the drive disc and W-Engine guide |
| 3 | Character and Skill material nodes | Ascension and core skills for your next build |
| 4 | Dennies and EXP | The two resources every account runs dry on |
If your team is already built and your Battery has nowhere useful to go, spend it on Dennies or EXP material rather than hoarding discs you will shred anyway.
The daily loop, in order
Do these in one sitting and you are done for the day:
- Spend or bank your Battery Charge. Push it into your priority node above. If you cannot commit the time, at least clear one node so the bar has room to keep filling toward tomorrow.
- Clear your daily Engagement to the cap. Simple tasks (log in, spend Battery, clear a stage, use the arcade or a commission) push your daily Engagement meter to its ceiling, which pays out a chunk of Polychrome and other odds and ends. This is the single most important daily habit for a free-to-play pull economy.
- Run the Scratch Card / Hollow Zero commission. The daily Hollow Zero investigation commission is quick and feeds your progression and shop currency. Do the fast version if you are short on time.
- Collect passive income. Video store management, VR training points, trust events with your Bangboo and agents, and mailbox codes all tick over on a timer. Sweep them up daily so nothing overflows.
That is the whole day. The trap to avoid is the same one as every live-service game: farming content that gives you nothing. If your account is built, funnel Battery into Dennies and EXP instead of chasing marginal disc upgrades.
The weekly resets you cannot skip
This is where the real Polychrome lives, and where a wasted week actually hurts. ZZZ's weekly reset lands on Monday at server time. Three things reset that you should always finish before the week turns over.
- Notorious Hunt. You get a set number of discounted boss clears per week at a reduced Battery cost. These drop the specialty ascension materials your best agents need, and that discount is use-it-or-lose-it. Skipping your Notorious Hunt clears is the most expensive daily-loop mistake you can make. Full breakdown in the Notorious Hunt weekly boss guide.
- Shiyu Defense. The main combat endgame. Clearing its stages pays a large Polychrome lump sum and is the biggest non-event pull income in the game. Clear it once per cycle and you never leave Polychrome on the table. Our Shiyu Defense guide covers the team archetypes each half rewards.
- Ridu Weekly commissions. The weekly bounty board hands over Dennies, EXP, and material for finishing a batch of quick objectives. It is most of your steady Dennies income, so mop it up.
The endgame modes on their own clock
Beyond the weekly reset, ZZZ's harder endgame runs on rotating cycles rather than a strict weekly cadence, so set a reminder rather than trusting your memory:
- Deadly Assault, the multi-boss gauntlet that rewards raw burst and strong single rotations. Each full clear is a heavy Polychrome payout. See the Deadly Assault guide.
- Hollow Zero weekly bounties and Withering Garden runs, which feed both progression currency and Polychrome through their bounty track. The Hollow Zero guide has the routing.
Together these three endgame modes (Shiyu, Deadly Assault, Hollow Zero bounties) are the backbone of a free account's pull savings. Clearing them each cycle is worth far more Polychrome than any amount of extra daily grinding.
A realistic weekly cadence
You do not need to log in obsessively. A sustainable rhythm looks like this:
- Every day: the five-minute loop (spend Battery, cap Engagement, run the daily Hollow Zero commission, sweep passive income).
- Monday: burn your Notorious Hunt discounted clears first, then clear Shiyu Defense and finish the Ridu Weekly board.
- Once per cycle: clear Deadly Assault and your Hollow Zero bounties.
Miss a daily here and there and you lose a little overflow Battery, no disaster. Miss a Notorious Hunt discount or a Shiyu Defense cycle and you have thrown away the best rewards the game hands out for free. Pair this routine with the Inter-Knot progression guide so your Battery is always flowing into a build worth making, and lean on the F2P Polychrome pull economy guide to turn all that saved currency into the agents you actually want.
