Two Gear Systems, One Power Spike
In Zenless Zone Zero, an Agent's power comes from two gear systems: Drive Discs (your stat-bearing artifacts) and a W-Engine (your weapon). Pulling a great Agent off the tier list is only half the job. Gearing them correctly is what turns a good unit into a team carry. Here is how both systems work and what to farm.
Drive Discs: Slots, Main Stats, and Sets
Every Agent equips six Drive Discs, one per slot. The slots split into two groups:
- Slots 1 to 3 have fixed main stats: Slot 1 is always HP, Slot 2 is ATK, Slot 3 is DEF.
- Slots 4 to 6 have selectable main stats, and these are where you tune a build:
- Slot 4 is your damage stat: usually CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, or Anomaly Proficiency for Anomaly carries.
- Slot 5 is your damage type: an Element DMG Bonus (Physical, Fire, Ice, Electric, or Ether) matching your Agent.
- Slot 6 is your role stat: ATK% for DPS, Energy Regen for supports, Impact for Stunners, or Anomaly Mastery for Anomaly units.
Sub-stats on every disc are where the real grind lives, and for most carries the gold standard is stacking CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, and ATK%.
Set Bonuses
Drive Discs come in named sets, and you get bonuses for wearing multiples:
- A 4-piece set gives the strongest, build-defining bonus.
- A 2-piece set gives a smaller, flat boost.
The standard endgame layout is a 4-piece + 2-piece split: one 4-piece set that matches your Agent's role or element, plus a 2-piece set (commonly a flat ATK% or element bonus). For example, a Stunner wants a Daze-focused 4-piece like Shockstar Disco, while a crit DPS wants a damage 4-piece such as Woodpecker Electro paired with a 2-piece element set like Polar Metal (Ice) or Chaotic Metal (Ether).
W-Engines: Match the Specialty
Your W-Engine is your weapon, and the most important rule is simple: a W-Engine's passive only works when its Specialty matches your Agent's Specialty. ZZZ Specialties are Attack, Stun, Anomaly, Support, and Defense (the same roles you build teams around in our teams guide).
- Signature S-rank W-Engines are best-in-slot for the Agent they were designed for, but they are limited and expensive.
- Standard S-rank and A-rank W-Engines cover every Specialty and are far more accessible. Several A-rank engines are craftable and remain excellent value.
If you do not have an Agent's signature W-Engine, pick the best standard or craftable engine of the same Specialty with a matching main stat (CRIT for most carries, ATK or Energy for supports). A correct-Specialty A-rank beats a wrong-Specialty S-rank every time.
What to Farm, by Role
| Role | Slot 4 / 5 / 6 priority | Drive Disc focus |
| Attack DPS | CRIT / Element DMG / ATK% | 4-pc damage set + 2-pc element or ATK |
| Anomaly | Anomaly Proficiency / Element DMG / Anomaly Mastery | 4-pc anomaly set + 2-pc proficiency |
| Stun | ATK or CRIT / Element / Impact | 4-pc Daze set (e.g. Shockstar Disco) |
| Support | ATK / Element / Energy Regen | 4-pc support set + 2-pc ATK |
| Defense | CRIT or DEF / Element / Energy | 4-pc defensive set + 2-pc to taste |
Priorities for New Players
- Get the main stats right first. A disc with the correct Slot 4/5/6 main stat beats a higher-level disc with the wrong one.
- Lock in a 4-piece set that matches the Agent's role before chasing perfect sub-stats.
- Match your W-Engine's Specialty to the Agent. Use a craftable A-rank if you lack the signature.
- Then grind sub-stats (CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%) for the long-term power climb.
