There Are No Classes — That's the Point
Enshrouded never asks you to pick a class. Instead, a sprawling skill tree lets you spend points across melee, ranged, magic, and survival nodes however you like, and you can respec at any time for a small fee. That freedom is liberating, but it also means new players freeze up wondering where to invest. This guide cuts through it.
The Best Builds to Aim For
You do not commit forever, but starting with a coherent plan keeps your early levels focused. Here is how the proven builds stack up — the full build tier list ranks every option.
Battlemage (Best All-Rounder)
The Battlemage carries a one-hander and shield for melee safety and a staff for ranged burst. Because it always has an answer — block when pressured, blast from range when safe — it scales smoothly from your first hours into the deep Shroud. If you are unsure what to play, play this.
Tank (Most Forgiving)
The Tank build stacks constitution, block, and heavy armor. It deals less burst but almost never dies, making it ideal for solo players and for anchoring co-op fights. Pair it with the Blacksmith's best armor and you become nearly unkillable.
Wizard (Highest Damage)
For players who want raw boss-melting power, the Wizard build pours points into intelligence and mana for stacked elemental spells. The trade-off is fragility — stay mobile and manage your mana or you will fold fast.
Ranger (Pick Targets Apart)
The Ranger build lives on the bow, deleting tough single targets before they close. It needs the Hunter rescued for arrow crafting and a melee backup for when packs swarm.
Who to Rescue First
Survivor NPCs are crafters you revive at your Flame Altar, and rescue order matters more than most guides admit. The full Survivor tier list ranks them all; the short version:
- The Blacksmith — first, always. Weapons, armor, and repairs are the biggest early power spike.
- The Carpenter — advanced building, comfort buffs, and traversal gear.
- The Alchemist — healing and Shroud-survival potions for aggressive pushes.
- The Hunter — essential if you are going Ranger, optional otherwise.
- The Farmer — long-term food buffs and a self-sufficient base.
Tying It Together: Flame Level Gates Everything
No build matters if you can't survive the Shroud. Keep upgrading your Flame Altar with Shroud Cores to raise your Flame level, which extends your Shroud timer and unlocks deeper regions. Spread several altars across the map so you always have a safe outpost near the action.
Starter Plan
- Spec toward the Battlemage for your first 10–15 levels — it is the most forgiving.
- Upgrade your Flame Altar every time you find Shroud Cores.
- Respec freely as better gear drops — the skill tree is meant to be retuned.
For every system in depth, the Enshrouded wiki covers combat, the Shroud, building, and server setup. Get your build and rescue order right early, and the world opens up far faster.
