Update 8 Resets Your Skills

When you load an existing Enshrouded character after Update 8, your skill tree is reset and your points are refunded. This is intentional: Keen Games rebuilt the tree layout, added new skills, made many skills upgradeable, and adjusted early XP pacing.

Do not treat the reset as a nuisance. It is a chance to clean up messy early-access builds and commit to a stronger path.

What Changed

The important skill-tree changes are:

  • more than 20 new skill nodes
  • many skills can now be upgraded after unlocking
  • new weapon and tool special-ability skills
  • more health-increase options
  • Double Jump moved toward the center of the tree
  • early level pacing rebalanced
  • clearer paths between melee, ranged, and magic branches

The big strategic shift is that base skills cost less, but full strength often requires upgrades. That means you can reach build-defining nodes faster, then deepen them once your core route is online.

Best First Respec: Battlemage

For most players, the safest post-reset build is still Battlemage.

Prioritize:

  • enough health to survive mistakes
  • one-handed melee and shield utility
  • mana or intelligence nodes for ranged burst
  • Double Jump once you can reach it efficiently
  • your preferred weapon special ability

The goal is flexibility. You can block, fight in melee, cast from range, and recover from bad pulls.

Best Solo Respec: Tank

If you play solo or keep dying in the Shroud, go Tank.

Prioritize:

  • maximum health nodes
  • stamina sustain
  • shield/block improvements
  • heavy armor synergy
  • melee heavy-attack support

Update 8 makes armor upgrades more important, so a Tank should also visit the Blacksmith and upgrade core gear before pushing bosses.

Best Ranged Respec: Ranger

The Ranger benefits from the broader combat changes, especially if you like thinning camps before enemies fully engage.

Prioritize:

  • bow damage
  • stamina and mobility
  • critical or weak-point bonuses
  • arrow economy through the Hunter
  • a melee escape plan

Enemy awareness changes make quieter approaches more meaningful, but Ranger still struggles if packs close distance.

Best Damage Respec: Wizard

Wizard remains the highest-risk damage route. Update 8 includes early magic help like better wand durability and Fireball tuning, but you still need positioning.

Prioritize:

  • mana pool
  • elemental damage
  • survivability before greed
  • potion support from the Alchemist
  • dodge tools before deep Shroud runs

If you are returning after months away, do not go full glass cannon immediately. Learn the new combat timing first.

Spend Points Before Exploring

The worst mistake after Update 8 is logging into an old save, seeing refunded points, and ignoring them. Your character is weaker until you rebuild.

Use this order:

  1. Pick a build identity.
  2. Buy the core survival nodes.
  3. Unlock your main weapon path.
  4. Add movement tools.
  5. Upgrade skills only after the foundation is stable.
