The HostedGG Mod Manager

Our integrated mod manager lets you install mods and plugins directly to your server without SFTP, FTP, or manual file uploads. It's powered by Modrinth, one of the largest mod repositories.

How It Works

  1. Navigate to your server dashboard
  2. Click the Mods tab
  3. Search for any mod by name
  4. Select your mod loader (Fabric, Forge, Quilt) and Minecraft version
  5. Click Install - the mod downloads directly to your server
  6. Restart your server to load the mod

That's it! No downloading to your computer, no FTP clients, no manual uploads.

Mod Loaders Explained

Fabric

  • Lightweight and fast-loading
  • Best for: Performance mods, client-side mods, newer mods
  • Popular mods: Sodium, Lithium, Iris, Fabric API

Forge

  • Most mods available
  • Best for: Large modpacks, tech/magic mods
  • Popular mods: Create, Applied Energistics 2, Mekanism, Botania

Quilt

  • Fabric-compatible with additional features
  • Best for: Users who want Fabric ecosystem with extras
  • Note: Most Fabric mods work on Quilt
Intel

Important: You cannot mix mod loaders. All mods must use the same loader (e.g., all Fabric or all Forge).

Version Matching

Always install mods that match:

  1. Your Minecraft version (e.g., 1.20.1)
  2. Your mod loader (e.g., Fabric)

Our mod manager automatically filters compatible versions, but always double-check before installing.

Client-Side vs Server-Side

  • Server-side mods: Install on server only (players don't need them)
  • Client-side mods: Install on server AND client (players need them too)
  • Both: Most gameplay mods require both

Check mod descriptions on Modrinth for compatibility info.

Managing Installed Mods

View Installed Mods

Navigate to the Mods tab to see all installed mods.

Update Mods

When updates are available, you'll see an update notification. Click Update to install the latest version.

Remove Mods

Click the Remove button next to any mod to uninstall it.

Via File Manager

You can also manage mods through the file manager:

  • Paper/Spigot: /plugins/ folder
  • Forge/Fabric: /mods/ folder

Troubleshooting

Server Won't Start After Installing a Mod

Check the console for error messages. Common issues:

  1. Version mismatch - Mod version doesn't match Minecraft version
  2. Missing dependency - Some mods require other mods (e.g., Fabric API)
  3. Loader mismatch - Installing a Forge mod on a Fabric server

Mod Not Working

  1. Confirm the mod is server-side compatible
  2. Check that players have the same mod installed (if required)
  3. Look for configuration files in the config folder
