The Old Way
Traditionally, installing mods on a Minecraft server meant:
- Finding mods on CurseForge or Modrinth
- Downloading the
.jarfile to your computer - Connecting via SFTP
- Uploading to the
/modsfolder - Restarting the server
- Hoping it works
This process was tedious, error-prone, and intimidating for beginners.
The HostedGG Way (Do This Instead!)
With our 1-Click Mod Manager, installing mods is as simple as:
- Go to your server dashboard
- Click the More -> Mods installer tab
- Search for any mod
- Click Install
- Done! ✅
No SFTP. No file uploads. No guesswork.
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. Navigate to Your Server
From your dashboard, click on your Minecraft server.
2. Open the Mods Tab
Click the Mods tab in the server management interface.
3. Search for a Mod
Use the search bar to find any mod from Modrinth's massive library. Try searching for popular mods like:
- Sodium (performance boost)
- Lithium (server optimization)
- Fabric API (required for Fabric mods)
4. Select Your Loader & Version
Make sure you select the correct:
- Mod Loader: Fabric, Forge, or Quilt
- Minecraft Version: Match your server version
Our system automatically filters compatible versions for you.
5. Click Install
That's it! The mod downloads directly to your server. No manual uploading required.
6. Restart Your Server
Click the Restart button in the console, and your mods will be loaded.
Compatibility Tips
Mod Loaders
- Fabric: Lightweight, great for performance mods
- Forge: More mods available, heavier
- Quilt: Experimental Fabric fork
Make sure all your mods use the same loader. You can't mix Fabric and Forge mods!
Version Matching
Always install mods that match your Minecraft version. A 1.20.1 mod won't work on a 1.19.4 server.
Dependencies
Some mods require other mods to work (like Fabric API). Our mod manager shows dependencies, so you'll know what else to install.
Troubleshooting
Server Won't Start After Installing a Mod
Solution: Check the console for error messages. The mod might be incompatible or require a dependency.
Mod Doesn't Appear In-Game
Solution: Make sure you installed a server-side mod. Some mods are client-only and won't affect the server.
Conflicting Mods
Solution: Two mods might not work together. Try disabling one via the file manager.
