Hytale Game Modes: Exploration, Creative, and Adventure

The Short Answer

Hytale is built around three pillars: Exploration, Creative, and Adventure. In the current Early Access build, Exploration and Creative are playable now, while Adventure mode and the wider community-server and minigame scene are on the roadmap. Knowing which is which saves a lot of confusion for new players.

Exploration Mode (Playable Now)

Exploration is Hytale's survival sandbox. You gather resources, craft tools and gear, build shelter, and fight the creatures of the world. It is the mode that teaches every core system, so it is the recommended starting point. If you are brand new, begin here and read our getting started page.

Creative Mode (Playable Now)

Creative mode gives you the full block palette and Hytale's building tools with no survival pressure. It is where ambitious builds happen, from castles to entire custom landscapes. The toolset goes well beyond placing single blocks, and our building guide covers the techniques that make creations stand out.

Adventure Mode (Planned After Early Access)

Adventure mode is the story-driven, almost MMO-like experience: NPCs, quests, and a guided journey through the world, while keeping the sandbox underneath. As of the current Early Access build it is not yet available and is planned to arrive after Early Access. Our Adventure mode page tracks what the studio has shared about its design.

Community Servers and Minigames (Part of the Vision)

A core part of Hytale's identity, inherited from the team's roots running one of the largest Minecraft servers, is community-made content: custom servers, minigames, and player-built modes.
