Table of Contents

Hytale's first major update since the beta launch is here, and it's a big one. From roaming dinosaurs in the underground jungles to significant quality-of-life improvements for crafting and inventory management, there's a lot to unpack.

Here is the full breakdown of Update 1.

World & Environment

The most exciting addition in this update is the arrival of dinosaurs!

  • Underground Jungles: You can now encounter dinosaurs and other new NPCs in the underground jungle biomes. Note that you may need to generate new chunks (explore unexplored areas) to see them spawn.
  • Volcanic & Sewer Atmospheres: Areas beneath volcanoes now feature proper volcanic effects, and the Devastated Lands sewers have received atmospheric upgrades and proper creature spawns.
  • Feran Villages: Fixed entity placements and interiors.

NPCs & Creatures

Combat and creature interaction have received a polish pass.

  • Smarter AI: Cautious predators like Foxes will no longer attack players unless provoked.
  • Combat Updates:
    • Knockback Resistance added to several NPCs.
    • Fire Immunity: Fire-themed creatures are now immune to fire damage (though they can still catch fire visually).
    • Crystal Earth Golem: Combat behavior and spin attacks have been improved.
  • Livestock: Animals should no longer climb on top of Chicken Coops (finally!).

Crafting, Items & Farming

Significant changes have been made to the Backpack progression and ease of use.

Backpack Overhaul

  • Cheaper to Craft: The Base Backpack now only requires a Tier 1 Workbench (previously Tier 2) and 8 Medium Leather (down from 16).
  • Easier Upgrades: The first upgrade now requires a Tier 2 Workbench.

Quality of Life

  • Extended Range: Crafting benches can now pull materials from chests within 14 blocks horizontally (up from 7) and 6 blocks vertically (up from 4).
  • Faster Leather: Light, Medium, and Heavy Hide now take 10 seconds less to process.
  • Farming Tweaks: Corn now gives 1 Essence of Life (fixed from 4). Fully grown crops like Pumpkin and Cauliflower no longer drop regular seeds when broken.

Audio & Visual Effects

Immersion is key in Hytale, and this update adds new layers of polish.

  • New Sounds: Hit and break sounds for stone and ores have been updated. Horses now have proper running sounds.
  • Particles: New ore breaking particles, fruit eating particles, and updated health potion visual effects.
  • Memory Absorption: A new particle effect appears when absorbing an NPC's memory.

UI & Performance

  • Sleep Earlier: You can now sleep starting at 7:30 PM.
  • Memories UI: Added an info panel for the Memories system.
  • Network: Servers now use BBR congestion control for better network performance.
  • Performance: Improved interaction system handling during server lag spikes.

Commands & Server

For the server admins out there:

  • Teleport Fix: /tp <player> <targetPlayer> argument order fixed.
  • Durability: The /give command now supports specifying item durability.
  • Bans/Whitelist: Now supports both online usernames and offline UUIDs.

Bug Fixes & Stability

Dozens of bugs have been squashed, including:

  • Fixed weapon Charged Attacks not consuming Stamina correctly.
  • Fixed fluid flow behavior when stacking water sources.
  • Fixed crashes related to non-English folder names for screenshots.
  • Fixed "waiting for chunks" taking too long at low view distances.

This update sets a strong foundation for future content. The addition of dinosaurs is just the tip of the iceberg!
