Jagex shipped RuneScape: Dragonwilds 1.0 on 15 September 2026 and put a RuneScape game on a console for the first time in twenty five years. Three weeks and four patches later, the picture is clearer: the content landed well, the save system did not, and the roadmap announced on 3 October is considerably more ambitious than "a few more quests."
What 1.0 actually added
The headline was the Scorned Wilderness, a region of floating islands reached only by killing the elemental dragons guarding the gateways between them. It carries two things: The Hub, an endgame building space, and a raid zone, which is Jagex's own word for it. The Regicide quest opens it.
At the end sits Kuldra, an ancient five-headed black dragon at power 9 with 240,000 health, the only monster in the game above 10,000. The number is less alarming than it looks: the encounter hands you anima cannons that deal 9,999 damage per shot, so her health bar is sized against those rather than against your gear.
Alongside it:
- Rune gear at power 8 and Dragon gear at power 9, with new ores and crafted materials behind them
- Black dragonhide, the best ranged armour in the game
- Ancestral robes and a wand, a new magic weapon type Jagex pitched as a faster, more mobile way to deal damage
- Nine new enemy types, including Goblin Thugs, Garou Exiles and Black Dragons
- Sprint Attacks and a reworked camera and combat input
- Three new spells (Enchant Weapon: Water, Enfeeble, Vengeance) plus Home Teleport, which returns you to your bed on a 900 second cooldown
- Per-session crossplay and invite codes
- Faster loading for large builds
Jagex said it found, logged and fixed 2,665 bugs getting the 1.0 build out across four platforms. Which brings us to the one it did not.
The save corruption, and the unusually good response
Around a thousand players on console and PC Game Pass found their saves unreadable after launch, triggered by disconnects, console sleep mode and similar interruptions. Jagex traced the main culprit to editing your character's appearance and disabled the button outright.
The response is worth noting, because the easy option was available and Jagex did not take it. Rather than telling a thousand people to start over, the 1.0.1 update targeted for mid-October replaces affected characters with tier 4 equipment and skills set to aggregated average levels, preserving the original name, appearance and private chest access.
That is not a full restore and Jagex has not pretended it is. It is also a materially better outcome than the shrug this kind of bug usually gets.
The patch cadence around it has been quick: 1.0.0.4 on 18 September for save corruption, a Fishing Rod crash and settings crashes; 1.0.0.5 on 25 September fixing multiplayer connection failures with three or more players, corruption from modded dedicated servers on console, raid respawn bugs, and adding DLSS and FSR; 1.0.0.6 on 29 September restoring Epic Games Store crossplay; and 1.0.0.7, which fixed progress not carrying between multiplayer worlds.
If you run a dedicated server, every one of those needed a restart, because a version mismatch makes the server invisible rather than throwing an error.
The Summit roadmap: Prayer in December, Hunter in 2027
The first Dragonwilds Summit on 3 October laid out free updates running through 2027, and it answers a question the wiki has carried a question mark against since early access: the unreleased skills.
Luminance, December 2026:
- The Lyre and Songstones, a music-based gameplay system
- Fairy Rings for exploration
- Elven facial features, weapons and armour
- Prifddinas-themed building kits, the first elven materials for Construction
- The Prayer skill, built around scattering ashes and burying bones
The Blood Crystal Saga, 2027, in two chapters:
- Song of Rebellion introduces the Hunter skill for trapping and collecting creatures, set in the corrupted elven city of Ailddinas. Secure servers and leaderboards ship alongside it.
- Crown of Night sends you against the Nos Clan, with the Dark Bow and the Ivandis Flail named as legendary weapons.
Modding tools and an in-game mod browser are due early 2027.
That leaves Slayer as the only announced-but-undated skill of the three, and it leaves the magic ceiling unresolved. Magic armour currently stops at power 5 while melee reaches 9 and ranged reaches 8, which is the clearest structural gap in the 1.0 build. Luminance adding elven armour and the Prayer skill may close it. Nothing announced says so explicitly.
Where it stands
Dragonwilds sold over a million copies during early access and arrived at 1.0 day one on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, at $29.99 for the Standard Edition.
For a game whose entire pitch is RuneScape skilling attached to a co-op survival loop, the 1.0 content list is the right one: a real endgame region, the top two material tiers, and a raid to spend them on. The save bug is the asterisk, and it has a dated fix.
New to it, the beginner's guide covers the first day and the boss order guide covers the next sixty hours.
