Reverse: 1999 Euphoria Explained: What It Does and Who to Invest In

Euphoria gives your older six-stars a second kit, new passives, and a real power jump, but only if you can pay the Insight and Reveries in the Rain cost. Here is how the system works, what the upgrade actually changes, how to farm the materials, and how to decide which arcanists deserve it.

Table of Contents

Reverse: 1999 has a quiet problem that every long-running gacha eventually faces: the arcanist you loved and built at launch slowly falls behind the shiny new six-stars. Euphoria is the studio's answer. Instead of retiring your favorites, it hands select characters a genuine upgrade path that can drag an older unit back into relevance, sometimes past it. If you have a psychube-optimized main you refuse to bench, this is the system that keeps them useful.

But Euphoria is an investment, not a free buff, and it is easy to sink weeks of materials into the wrong arcanist. This is what it does, what it costs, and how to spend it well.

What Euphoria actually changes

Euphoria is a layered upgrade applied to a specific character. Unlocking it does four things at once:

  • Activates Incantation Cadence, a reworked or extended version of the character's kit that changes how their skills behave in combat.
  • Raises their stats beyond the normal Insight ceiling.
  • Unlocks an Epiphany, which grants new passive effects the character did not have before.
  • Often refreshes their presentation with new art or effects, so the upgrade looks like an event, not a stat tweak.

The result is not a small percentage bump. For the right arcanist it can add a new mechanic, smooth out a clunky rotation, or turn a solid pick into a team-defining one. This is the closest Reverse: 1999 gets to giving you a brand-new character out of one you already own.

The requirements, plainly

Two gates stand between you and an Euphoria upgrade, and they differ by rarity:

RequirementSix-star arcanistFive-star arcanist
Insight level neededInsight III, Level 30Insight III, Level 1
Core materialsInsight materials plus Reveries in the Rain resourcesSame, at lower cost

That five-star line matters more than it looks. Because five-stars only need Insight III at Level 1, Euphoria on a welfare or budget five-star is dramatically cheaper to reach than on a fully leveled six-star, which is part of why some of the best-value Euphorias in the game sit on lower-rarity units.

The upgrade itself runs through three stages you complete in order: Develop Incantation Cadence, Master Cadence, and Harness Epiphany. Each stage consumes materials and unlocks the next layer of the buff, so you can stop partway and still keep the early gains if you run short.

Where the materials come from

The Euphoria-exclusive currency comes from Reveries in the Rain, the game mode built specifically to fund this system. Running it earns the three key materials, usually referred to as Keys of Thought, Sprouts of Fantasy, and Seeds of Inspiration, on top of the standard Insight materials you already farm for ascension.

Because Reveries in the Rain is a dedicated mode with its own pacing, treat it like any other stamina sink in your routine: clear the refreshable content regularly so the materials accumulate in the background rather than trying to grind an entire Euphoria in one sitting. The system was designed to be paid off over patches, not overnight.

Who deserves your Euphoria

There are dozens of Euphoria-eligible arcanists now, and the roster grows with almost every version, so the honest advice is not a fixed list, it is a filter. Run any candidate through these questions:

  • Do you actually use them? Euphoria is an investment in a character you run in real content, not a completionist trophy. If they sit in your box, skip it.
  • Does the Euphoria fix a weakness or add a role? The best upgrades change what a character can do, not just how hard they hit. An arcanist whose Euphoria unlocks a new status, better sustain, or a smoother afflatus and combat loop is worth far more than one that only nudges damage.
  • Is it a cheap five-star? The Insight III Level 1 requirement makes some five-star Euphorias absurdly efficient. These are often the first ones a mid-game account should chase.
  • Do you have the endgame need? If you are comfortably clearing Limbo and the endgame, Euphoria is a nice-to-have. If you are wall-hitting on a specific team, an Euphoria that props up your carry can be the unlock.

Which specific arcanists currently top that list shifts every patch as new Euphorias release and the meta moves, so check our live tier list for who is worth it right now rather than committing on a name you saw in an old guide.

The bottom line

Euphoria is one of the most player-friendly systems in the genre: instead of forcing you to re-pull for power, it lets you deepen the characters you already care about. But it rewards patience and picky spending. Pick an arcanist you genuinely play, ideally one whose upgrade adds a real capability, lean into the cheap five-star options early, and let Reveries in the Rain fund the rest in the background. Do that and Euphoria quietly solves the oldest problem in any long-running gacha: it keeps your favorites from ever truly aging out.
