V Rising Server Performance

V Rising dedicated servers need proper resources and configuration to deliver smooth gameplay. This guide covers plan sizing, performance-impacting settings, and lag diagnosis.

Plan Sizing

ScenarioPlayersRAMHostedGG Plan
Small friend group2-56 GBStarter
Medium clan5-158 GBStandard
Large PvP server15-3012 GBPerformance
Full population (40)30-4012 GBPerformance

What Affects RAM Usage

FactorRAM Impact
Active playersHigh — each player loads surroundings
Castle countHigh — each castle has persistent data
Castle complexityMedium — more structures = more memory
ServantsMedium — AI pathfinding and missions
World ageLow-Medium — older worlds have more data

Performance-Impacting Settings

Castle Limits (Biggest Impact)

Castles are the #1 performance factor. More castles = more memory and processing.

SettingPerformance ImpactRecommendation
Castle Hearts Per PlayerHigh1 for large servers, 2 for small
Castle Territory SizeHighDefault or smaller for 20+ players
Max Clan SizeMediumLarger clans = fewer total castles

Example: A 40-player server where each player has 2 castles = 80 castles loading simultaneously. Reducing to 1 castle per player halves the load.

Entity Limits

SettingPerformance Impact
Servant count per castleMedium
Drop Table ModifierLow-Medium (more drops = more entities)
Mob spawn densityMedium

Auto-Save Interval

IntervalImpactRecommendation
5 minutesHigher disk I/O, slight lag spikesNot recommended
10 minutesBalancedGood for PvP (less data loss)
15 minutesDefault, minimal impactBest for most servers
30 minutesMinimal impactFine for PvE (more data at risk)

Diagnosing Lag

Common Lag Symptoms

SymptomLikely Cause
Rubber-bandingNetwork latency or server overload
Delayed actionsHigh server tick time (CPU bound)
Long load timesInsufficient RAM, large world
Lag when exploringLoading new areas with many castles
Lag during PvPToo many entities in one area
Lag during raidsCastle destruction generates many events

Quick Fixes

  1. Restart the server — clears memory leaks, resets caches
  2. Check player count — is the server over capacity for its plan?
  3. Reduce castle limits — fewer castles = less load
  4. Increase auto-save interval — reduces disk I/O spikes
  5. Clear decayed castles — admin can dismantlealienheart abandoned castles

Monitoring Server Health

From the HostedGG dashboard:

  • CPU usage — should stay below 80% during normal play
  • RAM usage — should stay below 90%
  • Disk I/O — spikes during saves are normal

World Management

Cleaning Up Abandoned Castles

Abandoned castles waste server resources. Solutions:

  1. Enable castle decay — unfueled Castle Hearts will decay naturally
  2. Manual cleanup — use dismantlealienheart to remove specific castles
  3. Adjust decay rate — faster decay clears abandoned bases sooner
  4. Announce before cleanup — give players time to fuel their hearts

World Resets

For seasonal or event servers, periodic world resets keep performance fresh:

  1. Stop the server
  2. Download the current world via File Manager (optional backup)
  3. Delete the world save folder
  4. Start the server — a fresh world generates

Network Optimization

Player Connection Quality

V Rising is sensitive to network latency:

PingExperience
Under 50msExcellent — responsive combat
50-100msGood — minor delays
100-150msAcceptable — noticeable in PvP
Over 150msPoor — rubber-banding likely

HostedGG servers are located in multiple regions. Choose the region closest to the majority of your players.

DDoS Protection

All HostedGG servers include enterprise-grade DDoS protection. No configuration needed.

When to Upgrade Your Plan

Consider upgrading if:

  • RAM usage consistently above 85%
  • CPU usage regularly spiking above 80%
  • Players report persistent lag after optimization
  • Server population is growing beyond current plan capacity
  • Reaching 75% of max player count during peak hours
