Zenless Zone Zero Claret Flint Build Guide (3.2): W-Engine, Drive Discs, Stats, and Teams

Claret Flint's live ZZZ 3.2 build: Crimson Thirst, four-piece Thorned Rose, and why 1,800 initial DEF is the breakpoint that decides her CRIT Rate.

Zenless Zone Zero Claret Flint Build Guide (3.2): W-Engine, Drive Discs, Stats, and Teams
Table of Contents

Build Claret Flint on muscle memory and you will wonder why your shiny new S-Rank feels weak. She is the one carry in the game who wants DEF over ATK and who keeps thanking you for CRIT Rate long after it should have stopped mattering. Get those two facts right and she clicks. Get them wrong and you have a beautiful unit doing budget damage.

Claret headlines Version 3.2 Phase 1 as the first Agent built on the new Armorer Specialty, so this guide assumes you have read how Gash, Maim, and multi-CRIT work and want the character-specific build on top of it. Her channel opened September 9, 2026 and runs to September 30, which means the guesswork is over: the sections below now carry her live signature W-Engine, her real Drive Disc set, and the DEF breakpoint that decides how much CRIT Rate you actually get.

Why Claret plays differently from every carry you own

Claret is a front-line Electric damage dealer, not a swap-in finisher. Her whole identity rests on three rules that break your existing instincts:

  1. She scales off DEF. Treat DEF the way you treat ATK on any other carry. It is her damage stat and her survival stat at once, which is why she wants to hold the field rather than ping in for a hit and leave.
  2. CRIT Rate does not cap at 100 percent. Multi-CRIT guarantees her first crit once Rate hits 100 percent and turns the overflow into a chance at a second crit on the same hit. So 140 percent Rate is a guaranteed crit plus a 40 percent bonus-crit shot, not 40 percent wasted.
  3. She runs her own resource. Claret applies Gash with her attacks and spends it with her Special Attack to detonate Maim, a burst that also buffs her. She does not need a role to enable her the way an Attack carry needs a Stunner, which loosens her team requirements.

Hold those three in your head and the rest of the build is just details.

Stat priority: the sheet that looks wrong

Here is the priority spread. It will feel alien next to your Attack carries, and that is the point.

PriorityStatWhy
CoreDEF% and flat DEFHer damage stat. This is the "ATK" of an Armorer. Build around it.
CoreCRIT RateKeep buying it past 100 percent. Multi-CRIT means the overflow is a second-crit chance, so it never plateaus.
SecondaryCRIT DMGBetter than it looks, because her Core Skill converts it: 0.35% CRIT Rate per 1% initial CRIT DMG. It is still second to Rate, but it is not a dead stat the way "do not build CRIT DMG" advice implies.
SecondaryPEN RatioHer Disc 5 main stat on the live build. Enemy DEF is what caps a DEF carry's damage, so PEN is doing real work here, not filler.
SupportEnergy RegenOnly as much as it takes to keep her Special Attack, her Maim spender, coming back on time. Substats cover it; do not spend a main stat slot on it.

The one-line version: get to 1,800 initial DEF, then buy CRIT Rate well past 100 percent, then everything else. The order matters because of a set breakpoint covered further down. If you internalize nothing else, internalize that she is a DEF carry who never stops wanting Rate.

How far past 100 percent is worth knowing precisely, because "more is better" is not a build target. The second Laceration check reads CRIT Rate above the normal cap, so Rate keeps paying up to roughly 200 percent, and that is where it stops: at 200 you are hitting both checks every time and further Rate does nothing. Laceration's own multiplier is fixed at 150 percent, so it is the number of checks you are buying, not a bigger hit. Figures per Icy Veins' Claret page, which also confirms the build below: Crimson Thirst, four-piece Thorned Rose, and Woodpecker Electro as the two-piece.

Crimson Thirst, and what to run if you skipped it

Her signature is Crimson Thirst, running on the W-Engine channel alongside her. It is not the usual "signatures are best, obviously" shrug, because it happens to feed all three of the rules above at once:

  • DEF% secondary stat, around 48 percent at max level. Her damage stat, on the slot that normally hands a carry ATK%.
  • Bloodthirst stacks CRIT Rate up to 35 percent and Electric DMG up to 25 percent.
  • On top of that, up to 16 percent Electric Sharp DMG for 40 seconds, triggered by an EX Special Attack or by setting off Maim. Those are the two buttons her loop already presses, so the uptime looks after itself.

One correction worth having, since the trackers do not agree: her base DEF figure is reported as both 416 and 431 depending on where you read it, and the difference is a max-level versus level-60 reading rather than one of them being wrong. Do not treat either as a number to plan around. The DEF% secondary and the Bloodthirst stacks are what actually move her damage.

Skipping the signature costs less than it does on most carries, because her set does so much of the lifting:

  • Catty Luck is the best free option and scales DEF%, which is the whole requirement. An A-Rank engine on the right stat beats an S-Rank on the wrong one here, and that is not true of your Attack carries.
  • Among non-signature S-Ranks, Bloodmarrow Coffer is the one most commonly named, though I have seen it from fewer independent sources than the rest of this build, so check it against your own roster before you level it.

Whatever you land on, the test is the same: does it give DEF, or Rate, or something that fires off her Special? If not, it is the wrong engine no matter how high the rarity. Fundamentals on how engines and discs work live in the Drive Discs and W-Engines guide.

Drive Discs, and the 1,800 DEF breakpoint

Four-piece Thorned Rose, two-piece Woodpecker Electro. Thorned Rose is the DEF set that sat almost unused since launch (Ben was the only Agent who genuinely wanted it), and Claret is what it was waiting for.

The bonuses, and the reason the DEF target is not a vibe:

BonusEffect
Thorned Rose 2-pieceDEF +16%
Thorned Rose 4-piece+15% DMG, plus CRIT Rate scaling with initial DEF: +8% at 1,000, rising to +16% at 1,800
Woodpecker Electro 2-pieceCRIT Rate, the stat she never stops wanting

1,800 initial DEF is a breakpoint, not a target you approach. Below it you are leaving half the set's CRIT Rate on the floor, and because multi-CRIT converts overflow Rate into a second crit chance, that 16 percent is worth more on her than the same number on any Attack Agent. Hit 1,800 first. Then stack Rate.

Main stats, which are unusually settled for a day-one build:

SlotMain stat
Disc 4CRIT Rate
Disc 5PEN Ratio
Disc 6DEF%

Substats, in order: CRIT Rate, DEF%, PEN Ratio, CRIT DMG, flat DEF. When you read the Drive Disc substat guide for how rolls work, mentally swap every "ATK" for "DEF" and you have her priority. That substitution, ATK to DEF, is the single most common way players misbuild her. Do not be one of them.

One genuinely open question: the two-piece flex slot. Woodpecker Electro is the consensus pick and the one I would run, but at least one tracker pairs Thorned Rose with Soul Rock instead, and Puffer Electro turns up as a third suggestion. All three are defensible and the gap between them is small next to getting the four-piece and the DEF breakpoint right. NEEDS_REVIEW until a wider sample of clear data settles it.

Rotation: build Gash, then spend it

The core loop is short and repeatable:

  1. Apply Gash. Open with her Basic and dash attacks to stack Gash on the target, up to three stacks.
  2. Spend into Maim. Tap her Special Attack against a Gashed enemy to consume a stack and detonate Maim. Against an enemy holding multiple stacks, hold the Special for the longer chain that eats several stacks at once, which is where her damage spikes.
  3. Cash in during the Stun window. If you run a Stunner, time your biggest Maim spends into the Stun window for the usual damage multiplier, then rebuild Gash and repeat.
  4. Stay on the field. Because DEF is her damage, she is an anchor, not a finisher. Keep her in unless you are dodging a telegraphed hit or handing the field to a Stunner for a moment.

Best teams for Claret

Claret's self-sufficiency means she does not demand the rigid Stunner-plus-Support scaffold an Attack carry needs, which opens up her team building.

Start with the support, not the stunner. Alexandrina "Rina" Sebastiane is her best partner in the game, and the reason is mechanical rather than a tier-list opinion: Rina supplies PEN Ratio and DEF%, which are precisely the two stats Claret converts into damage. Most supports hand a carry ATK buffs she cannot use. Rina hands her exactly the right two, and does it on low field time.

  • Claret + Roxy + Rina (the ceiling). The pairing HoYoverse built for her. Roxy is the Wind Stun Agent arriving on the September 30 Phase 2 banner, tuned to open windows for exactly this kind of front-line carry. Worth planning your pulls around if you want her best team rather than her working one.
  • Claret + Koleda or Anby + Nicole (day one, no new pulls). The realistic Phase 1 team. Koleda or Anby covers the Stun, and Nicole shreds enemy DEF, which is a different lever from buffing Claret's own and stacks cleanly with it. This clears content now; it is not a placeholder.
  • Claret + Support + Support. Genuinely viable because she runs her own Gash loop. If she can sustain her rhythm without a dedicated Stunner, a second buffer can out-value one in fights where you do not need the stun to survive.

For where each Stunner and Support ranks, cross-reference the stun agent teams and the full ZZZ tier list. Whichever shell you run, feed her a good Bangboo that matches her Electric identity for the free Chain Attack damage.

Mindscape Cinema: how far to go

M0 is the whole character. She functions fully at zero Mindscapes, and nothing in her live kit changes that. The levels most often flagged as her meaningful ones are M1, M2, and M6, which is a normal shape for a ZZZ carry: an early bump, a second one, and a capstone. None of them are a playstyle change, so treat them as damage you are buying rather than a character you are unlocking. For the framework on whether a given level is worth it, the Mindscape Cinema guide walks through how to judge each tier.

Should you pull Claret Flint?

Pull if you enjoy piloting a carry on the field and timing a build-and-spend loop, and if being on the ground floor of a brand-new Specialty appeals to you. ZZZ has historically kept supporting an archetype once it commits, so the first Armorer has real staying power, and Claret is the most mechanically distinct carry the game has added since Rupture. Skip if you prefer the low-friction feel of an Anomaly team that mostly plays itself, because she will feel busy by comparison.

Her channel closes September 30, so the decision has a deadline. Grab the current ZZZ redeem codes for free Polychrome, check the 3.2 banner schedule for the full "should you pull" verdict on her and on Roxy in Phase 2, and if you are short, the polychrome and pull economy guide has what three weeks of income realistically adds up to.
