Table of Contents

Version 4.5 is a support patch, not a carry patch, and that changes how you should read the meta. Nothing that dropped on August 25 replaces your main damage dealer. What arrived is a genuinely excellent healer in Hyacine, a summer Robin alternate that reshuffles the buffer slot, and the first crack at the new Elation path with Aventurine Waveflair in Phase 2. So the winning move for most accounts is to keep the carry you already invested in and upgrade the seat next to them.

Below are the strongest HSR teams right now, grouped by damage archetype so you can find the one your account already half-owns. For where each individual character sits, pair this with the full HSR tier list; for the pull decisions, the 4.5 banner schedule has the "should you pull" verdicts.

Break and Super Break: still the floor-clearing king

If you only build one team in Star Rail, this is the archetype that clears the widest range of content with the least babysitting.

Firefly + Ruan Mei + a Nihility unit + Gallagher (or Lingsha). Firefly remains the standard-setter for Super Break: she converts Break Effect into enormous sustained damage and does not compete for skill points. Ruan Mei is the glue, adding Break, speed, and a damage amplifier that every Break team wants. The fourth slot flexes between a Nihility enabler and a healer who also feeds Break, like Gallagher or Lingsha.

Boothill + Ruan Mei + Bronya (or Robin) + healer. For single-target and boss-heavy Memory of Chaos sides, Boothill duels one enemy for amplified Break damage. He wants a turn-advancing Harmony unit and a sustain who does not eat his tempo. If you understand Break Effect and Super Break mechanically, this is the team that rewards it most.

Hyacine slots into either of these as the sustain: a modern healer who keeps energy and speed high is exactly what a Break team wants in the fourth seat.

DoT and Nihility: the low-effort powerhouse

Damage-over-time teams win by ignoring enemy positioning and letting the debuffs tick. They are the most forgiving comps in the game.

Kafka + Black Swan + Ruan Mei (or a Nihility support) + Huohuo. The definitive DoT core. Kafka detonates Shock on demand, Black Swan's Arcana stacks ramp the damage-over-time into a landslide, and a healer like Huohuo keeps energy flowing. It is nearly unkillable, scales on Effect Hit Rate and Break rather than pull depth, and clears Pure Fiction with ease thanks to its multi-target ticks.

Acheron + two Nihility debuffers + Aventurine. Acheron is a debuff-fueled hypercarry whose Ultimate scales with how many debuffs the team stacks, so she runs with two Nihility units feeding her and a shielding sustain. Against elite and boss waves she is one of the highest ceilings in the game, and Aventurine doubles as a follow-up sub-DPS while he shields.

Follow-up and the new Elation path

This is the archetype Version 4.5 is quietly building toward. Elation is the follow-up-attack path, and Aventurine Waveflair in Phase 2 is the reason to save. If you already run a follow-up core, this is your upgrade window.

Follow-up core: FUA carry + Robin + Aventurine + Fu Xuan (or the new sustain). Robin's Concerto Ultimate supercharges a full turn cycle and is tailor-made for follow-up teams that get extra hits inside the buff window. The summer Robin Summeretto alternate covers the same buffer role, so you do not need both. Aventurine's shields and his own follow-up damage make him a natural fit, and the incoming Elation unit is designed to plug straight into this shell. Watch this space after Phase 2 opens on September 12.

Hypercarry: when you just want one character to win

Sometimes the answer is a single overwhelming damage dealer and three enablers.

  • Jingliu + Sparkle + Ruan Mei (or Pela) + healer. A self-sufficient Ice hypercarry with a powerful enhanced state. Sparkle feeds her skill points and crit damage, and the team funnels everything into Jingliu's enhanced skill.
  • Seele + Sparkle + Tingyun + Fu Xuan. The classic Quantum assassin who chains extra turns on every kill. Still elite on single-target and add-heavy Pure Fiction sides where she snowballs.

Hypercarry teams live and die on speed tuning: get the buffers moving before the carry and the whole rotation clicks.

What to actually build for 4.5

Here is the honest resource plan:

  1. If you lack a top-tier healer, pull Hyacine. Sustain is the seat most accounts are weakest at, and a great healer works in every team above for years. This is the safest value pull of the patch.
  2. If you have a follow-up core, save for Aventurine Waveflair in Phase 2. The Elation path is the future of the follow-up archetype, and Phase 2 is the banner to bank toward. Remember 4.5 runs only five weeks, so you accumulate less Stellar Jade than usual: plan pulls accordingly.
  3. If you are free-to-play and stretched, skip Phase 1. The Break and DoT cores above clear all current endgame on characters you likely already own, including strong free four-star options. Walking into Phase 2 with a full reserve is the cleanest line.

Before you blame a comp for a failed clear, check the fundamentals: correct relic substats, a working speed breakpoint, and enough energy to keep Ultimates online. And grab the current redeem codes for free Jade before your next ten-pull. For the reasoning behind every archetype here, the team-building archetypes guide is the deeper companion to this patch snapshot.
