Honkai: Star Rail Best Super Break Teams: Firefly, Rappa, Boothill, and the Cores That Carry Them

Super Break is still the most forgiving top-tier archetype in Honkai: Star Rail, and it runs on a shared spine of enablers. Here are the best Firefly, Rappa, and Boothill teams, the support cores that power all three, and free-to-play versions that clear endgame without a single signature Light Cone.

Table of Contents

Most archetypes in Honkai: Star Rail ask you to own a very specific list of characters. Super Break is different. It is built around a shared spine of enablers that three completely different carries all plug into, which means the pulls you make for one Break team quietly upgrade the next two. That reusability, plus a playstyle that punishes enemies for having any weakness type at all, is why Super Break has stayed near the top of the endgame charts patch after patch.

This guide is not a mechanics explainer. If you want the toughness math and the Break Effect scaling, read our Break Effect and Super Break guide first. What follows is the practical version: the exact teams, why the support core is interchangeable, and what to run if you are free-to-play.

Why the support core is the real character

The trick to Super Break teams is that the carry is roughly a third of the team, and the other two thirds barely change. Almost every strong Break comp is:

Intel

Break DPS + Super Break enabler + universal Break amplifier + sustain.

Three of those four slots are shared across Firefly, Rappa, and Boothill. Learn the core once and you can field any of the three carries you happen to own.

  • Ruan Mei is the amplifier nearly every Break team wants. She hands out Break Effect, boosts Weakness Break efficiency, adds resistance penetration, and extends the window enemies stay broken. If you pull one Break support in your life, it is her. She sits at or near the top of the HSR tier list for this exact reason.
  • Fugue is the Nihility enabler that opens Super Break for the whole team, shares Break Effect, and adds exo-toughness so enemies can be "broken" again for extra Super Break procs. On teams that are not Firefly, she is often the single biggest damage multiplier you can slot.
  • The Harmony Trailblazer is the free version of that Super Break enabler. Fully traced, they give the team Super Break access plus a Break Effect buff, and they cost nothing but story progress. This is the piece that makes Super Break the most accessible S-tier archetype in the game.
  • Lingsha and Gallagher are the sustain of choice. Both are Fire Abundance units who heal, cleanse, and actively contribute Break through follow-ups. Lingsha is the premium pick and implants Fire weakness; Gallagher is the four-star who does 80 percent of the job for free.

Own Ruan Mei, the Harmony Trailblazer, and Gallagher, and you already have three quarters of every team below.

Firefly: the self-sufficient burn carry

Firefly is the archetype's poster child. In her enhanced Complete Combustion state she generates her own Super Break, shreds toughness with Fire damage, and scales almost entirely off Break Effect and Effect Resistance rather than the usual crit stats, which makes her gearing refreshingly simple.

Best team: Firefly, Ruan Mei, Fugue, Lingsha.

This is the ceiling. Fugue and Ruan Mei stack Break Effect and toughness manipulation while Lingsha keeps Firefly topped up and implants Fire weakness so nothing is immune. It is single-target-leaning but melts elite bosses.

Free-to-play Firefly: Firefly, Harmony Trailblazer, Gallagher, and a fourth flex (a second Break support or a Nihility unit for weakness spread). Swap Fugue for the Harmony Trailblazer and Lingsha for Gallagher and you lose efficiency, not viability. This version still clears the hardest endgame modes.

Gearing shorthand: stack Break Effect to the breakpoint her kit rewards, then Speed, then ATK, keeping enough Effect Resistance to hold her enhanced-state uptime. The relic substat priority guide covers how to roll for that without drowning in domains.

Rappa: the AoE wave-clearer

Rappa is the answer when the content is packed with adds. In her Sealform state she launches AoE Imaginary attacks that chew through multiple toughness bars at once and pour out Super Break across the whole screen. Where Firefly wants a boss, Rappa wants a crowd.

Best team: Rappa, Fugue, Ruan Mei, Lingsha.

Fugue is close to mandatory here: her Super Break enabling is what turns Rappa's many small hits into a damage avalanche. Notice this is almost the identical support core to Firefly's, with the carry swapped. That is the whole point.

Free-to-play Rappa: Rappa, Harmony Trailblazer, Fugue if you have her (she is a four-star-accessible Nihility enabler, not a limited five-star pull for many accounts), and Gallagher. Rappa herself is a standard-banner five-star, which makes this one of the most attainable premium carries in the game.

Rappa's payoff mode is wide-add content, so she is a natural fit for Pure Fiction. Pair this guide with the endgame modes breakdown to see where each Break carry earns its slot.

Boothill: the single-target duelist

Boothill plays nothing like the other two. He is a Hunt Physical carry who locks a single enemy into a Standoff, implants Physical weakness so the target can always be broken, and stacks Pocket Trickshot for escalating single-target Super Break. He is the specialist you bring to a solo boss.

Best team: Boothill, Fugue, Ruan Mei, Gallagher or Lingsha.

Fugue and Boothill are a famous pairing because her exo-toughness lets him re-break the target and keep the Super Break flowing. Because his damage is so concentrated, a cheaper sustain like Gallagher is often plenty, freeing your premium units for other teams.

Free-to-play Boothill: Boothill, Harmony Trailblazer, a Nihility debuffer (for a second wave of weakness or defense shred), and Gallagher. His Standoff mechanic means he cares less about team-wide toughness tools and more about uptime on his own state, so the budget core holds up well.

Speed matters more here than most carries because his Trickshot ramp rewards extra turns. Run him through our speed tuning guide so his sequence does not desync from Ruan Mei's buff window.

What to build first

If you are staring at a fresh account or deciding where your next relic runs go, here is the honest priority order:

  1. Trace out the Harmony Trailblazer and build Ruan Mei. These two are the backbone of every Break team and cost you nothing but time and one pull target.
  2. Build Gallagher as your Break sustain. He is a four-star who turns "I have no healer" into a solved problem for the entire archetype.
  3. Then gear whichever carry you own, be it Firefly, Rappa, or Boothill. The support investment you already made carries all three.

That sequence is why Super Break remains the friendliest way into HSR's endgame: you invest in the core once, and every Break carry you ever pull walks straight into a finished team. For the wider meta beyond Break, our team building archetypes guide maps how Hunt follow-up, Nihility hypercarry, and the other cores stack up, and the tier list tracks where every unit lands as the patches roll on.
