The Short Answer

Genshin Impact Version 7.0 launches August 12, 2026, and it is the big one: the debut of Snezhnaya, the frozen homeland of the Tsaritsa and the Fatui, and the last of the seven nations players have been waiting on since Genshin launched in 2020. The date was effectively confirmed by HoYoverse's own redemption code, Snezhnaya20260812, which also happens to line up with the game's anniversary window. Version 7.0 brings a new snowbound region, a fresh Cryo-focused combat system called Stellar Reactions, and a launch roster expected to include Odette, Alyosha, and the Cryo Traveler.

This is a HostedGG news breakdown. Map and system details below come from HoYoverse's official 7.0 preview material; specific character kits are still pre-release leaks and can change before the version goes live.

Version 7.0 Release Date and How We Got Here

Version 7.0 follows straight on from Version 6.7, which went live on July 1, 2026 as the finale of the Nod-Krai arc with the Cryo Claymore DPS Sandrone. If you are still catching up on that patch, our Version 6.7 breakdown covers everything that shipped. With Nod-Krai wrapped, the Traveler's road now leads north into Snezhnaya, closing the loop on the original seven-nation journey.

Genshin runs on a roughly six-week update cadence, and 7.0 launching August 12 fits that rhythm cleanly. Expect the standard beats: a Special Program livestream about ten days before launch carrying three sets of free-Primogem codes, pre-installation opening a couple of days early, and maintenance compensation once servers return.

Snezhnaya: What the New Region Looks Like

Snezhnaya sits in the far north of Teyvat, northwest of Nod-Krai, filling the map space between Nod-Krai, Fontaine, and Mondstadt. HoYoverse's preview frames the launch map as larger than Sumeru's forest region, with room to expand in later 7.x patches, which is standard for a new nation's rollout.

A few things set Snezhnaya apart from every region before it:

  • A working railway network. Trains are the region's main mode of long-distance travel, and the carriages are more than transport. Some host theatrical performances while you ride, and the route is dotted with outdoor camping stops between stations.
  • A nation built on industry and cold. As the Fatui's home, Snezhnaya leans into a wintry, mechanized identity rather than the lush biomes of Sumeru or the waterworks of Fontaine.
  • The Tsaritsa in view. This is the seat of the Cryo Archon, so expect the main story to finally pull the curtain back on characters and factions the game has teased for years.

Stellar Reactions: The New Cryo Combat System

Every recent nation has shipped a signature system, and Snezhnaya's is Stellar Reactions: a set of enhanced, Cryo-centric elemental interactions designed to make Superconduct and related reactions genuinely worth building teams around. For most of Genshin's life, Superconduct has been a niche, low-value reaction. Stellar Reactions is HoYoverse's attempt to give Cryo-focused compositions a real damage identity instead of leaning on freeze-and-shatter or off-meta setups.

If it lands the way Natlan's Nightsoul or Fontaine's Arkhe systems did, expect a wave of theorycrafting around old Cryo units suddenly finding new life. That also means your artifact strategy matters more than ever: our artifact guide walks through which substats and sets to prioritize so you are ready to build whatever the new reactions reward.

New Characters in 7.0

Three playable units are expected at launch, though only the broad strokes are confirmed:

CharacterExpected RarityNotes
Odette5-StarNew Snezhnayan unit headlining Phase 1
Alyosha5-StarNew Snezhnayan unit, leaked for the launch window
Cryo TravelerFreeThe Traveler's Cryo element unlocks with the nation, as it does for every region

The Cryo Traveler alone is a big deal for free-to-play players: a no-cost element unlock that often anchors budget teams for the entire nation. Kits for Odette and Alyosha are still in beta and unconfirmed, so we are not going to invent numbers. When their skills are locked on the live server, we will publish full build guides the same way we did for our Sandrone build guide.

Should You Save?

  • Save now if you want the anniversary banners. A new-nation launch always front-loads its most hyped units, and 7.0 doubles as an anniversary patch, so Phase 1 is where the pressure will be. If Odette is your target, walk in with a full pity buffer.
  • Free-to-play players should prioritize the Cryo Traveler and clear content. The element unlock costs nothing, and Snezhnaya's exploration will hand out a pile of Primogems. Sweep it before spending on any banner.
  • Do not panic-pull on day one. New systems take a week or two for the community to solve. Let the theorycrafters map out which Cryo units Stellar Reactions actually elevates before you commit, especially if you are on a budget.

Before the patch, top off your Primogem stash: redeem everything on our Genshin codes guide, and if you are new or returning after a break, the beginner guide and wish pity system explainer will get you banner-ready. Not sure who deserves your Primogems long term? Our best characters guide ranks the current roster so you can plan around what you already own.
