Map Configuration

Procedural Maps

Rust generates unique maps from a seed. Configure in Settings:

  • Map Size: 1000 (small) to 6000 (huge)
  • Map Seed: Number that generates the map
  • Map Salt: Affects monument placement

Custom Maps

Upload custom maps from RustMaps.com:

  1. Download the .map file
  2. Upload via File Manager to the server root
  3. Update startup parameters to use the custom map
  4. Restart server

Wipe Management

Manual Wipe

To wipe your server:

  1. Stop the server
  2. Delete save files via File Manager:
    • /server/[identity]/proceduralmap.*.sav
    • /server/[identity]/player.blueprints.*.db (for BP wipe)
  3. Start the server

Scheduled Wipes

Configure automatic wipes on the first Thursday of the month (Rust's official wipe day) or your preferred schedule.

RCON Access

RCON (Remote Console) lets you manage your server remotely.

RCON Tools

  • Rust Admin (Windows)
  • Rust:IO (Web-based)
  • RustAdmin (Mobile)

RCON Commands

sh
server.writecfg # Save server config
server.save # Save the world
server.stop # Stop server gracefully
kick "playername" # Kick a player
ban "steamid" # Ban a player

Rust+ Companion App

Enable Rust+ for mobile server management:

  1. Ensure Rust+ Support is enabled in settings
  2. Open Rust+ app on your phone
  3. Pair using the in-game team system
  4. Monitor your server, chat, and receive notifications

Performance Optimization

  1. Start with 8GB RAM minimum (Rust is memory-intensive)
  2. Reduce decay scale for fewer entities
  3. Limit map size based on player count:
    • 50 players: 3000-3500
    • 100 players: 4000-4500
    • 200 players: 5000-6000
  4. Use appropriate entity limits via plugins

Enterprise DDoS Protection

All HostedGG Rust servers include DDoS protection:

  • Mitigates attacks up to 1Tbps
  • No configuration required
  • No extra cost
  • Automatic attack detection

Rust servers are common DDoS targets—we keep you online.
