Assault Rifle (AK)

The Assault Rifle, universally called the AK, is the weapon every Rust fight ultimately revolves around. It has the highest sustained damage of any automatic in the game, dropping a fully geared player in a handful of shots to the chest. The trade-off is a vicious recoil pattern you have to learn by heart and a steep cost: it needs a Tier 3 workbench, high-quality metal, and springs to craft.

Why It Tops the Meta

Once a player has an AK and metal armor, they control any open fight. Mastering its spray pattern is the single biggest skill gap between average and elite players, which is exactly why it sits at the top of the weapon tier list.
