Most reroll guides open by teaching you how to reroll faster. This one opens by talking you out of it.
Wuthering Waves is built differently from the gacha games where a reroll marathon is the smart opening play. Between a generous beginner banner and a free five-star you get to hand-pick, a brand-new account is already in good shape before you have pulled on a single limited character. So before you burn an evening clearing the prologue on ten throwaway accounts, understand what the game is actually handing you.
Why rerolling here is usually a waste
Two systems do most of the work of making a fresh account healthy.
The Beginner Convene banner is discounted and carries its own soft guarantee: you are promised a five-star inside 50 pulls, at a reduced Astrite cost. That alone puts a permanent five-star in most starter accounts within the first day of play, no rerolling required.
On top of that, progressing through the early game earns you a free five-star selector from the standard pool. You are not gambling for this unit, you are choosing it outright. When the game gives you a top-tier support for free and simply asks which one you want, the entire premise of rerolling for a good standard character collapses.
The one scenario where rerolling has a point is if you are dead set on starting with a specific limited featured character on the current rate-up banner. That is an 80-pity chase on a fresh account with almost no Astrite, so success is rare and slow. For nearly everyone, playing normally and saving is the better road.
The best starter to pick: Verina
When the free selector unlocks, the answer is not close. Take Verina.
Verina is a healer and support who fits into essentially every team in the game. She keeps your damage dealers alive, buffs their damage, and never falls out of the meta because supports age far better than DPS units do. A carry can be power-crept in a patch or two; a universal healer stays useful for years. Picking her first solves the single hardest roster problem a new account has, which is "how do I not die while I learn the combat."
The other standard five-stars are fine characters, but they are situational or replaceable. Verina is the one pick that makes every future team better, so unless you already own her, she is the default.
If you do want to reroll: the process
Decided you want a limited unit from day one anyway? Here is the loop, kept honest about the time cost.
- Create a new account using a fresh or guest login on your platform of choice. Keep your progress unlinked until you are happy.
- Clear the prologue until Convene (the pull system) unlocks. Budget roughly 20 to 30 minutes per attempt; there is no skipping the tutorial fight and early story beats.
- Claim your starting Astrite from mail, early quests, and any active login events, then spend it on the banner you are targeting.
- Check your result. Landed the character you wanted? Bind the account permanently and never look back. Otherwise, delete and repeat.
- Grab live codes first. Free Astrite from active redeem codes tops up each reroll attempt, so redeem before you pull.
Be realistic: at 80 pity for a guaranteed limited unit and a starter Astrite stash well short of that, most attempts will not hit. This is why we keep steering you back to simply playing and saving.
What to do after the reroll question is settled
Once you have your account, the real progression begins, and it is not about hoarding more characters. It is about building the ones you have.
- Learn the pull economy before you spend again. How pity, the 50/50, and Astrite income work decides whether your next banner is a guarantee or a gamble. The Astrite and pity guide lays it out.
- Farm Echoes early. Wuthering Waves lives and dies on its Echo gear system, and the grind is long, so start understanding it now with the Echo guide.
- Build a functioning team, not a collection. A three-character core that actually works beats six half-leveled units. See the current best team comps and the tier list for who to invest in.
The short version: Wuthering Waves respects a new player more than most gacha games do. Take the free Verina, save your Astrite for a limited unit you love, and skip the reroll grind entirely unless you have a very specific target in mind. If you are brand new, the beginners guide is the natural next stop, and the pull planner will keep your saving on track.
