Wuthering Waves Whimpering Wastes Team Tier List: The AoE Comps That Max the Score in 3.6

Whimpering Wastes is the opposite test to Tower of Adversity: it rewards wide, sustained damage against waves of enemies, not single-target burst. This tier list ranks the Wuthering Waves teams that top the Whimpering Wastes score board in Version 3.6, from the S-tier clear-everything cores down to the free comps that still cap the reward tiers.

Wuthering Waves Whimpering Wastes Team Tier List: The AoE Comps That Max the Score in 3.6
Table of Contents

If you keep bringing your Tower of Adversity team into Whimpering Wastes and wondering why the score feels low, this list is for you. They are not the same mode, and they do not want the same team.

Tower of Adversity is a single-target execution: crack one elite's stagger bar and dump a burst window before the clock resets. Whimpering Wastes is the other half of the WuWa endgame. It throws waves and packs at you across timed rooms, layers on rotating buffs and enemy affixes, and scores you on how much damage you can spread across many targets before time runs out. Burst that deletes one boss is nice. What actually tops the Wastes score board is a team that hits everything at once, over and over, without dropping tempo between packs.

So this ranks WuWa comps for that specific job: which teams put out the most sustained area damage against groups in the current Version 3.6 rotation. If you have not run the mode before, read the Whimpering Wastes mechanics guide first for how scoring, buffs, and the difficulty tiers work, then come back here for the comps.

Every ranking assumes the WuWa fundamentals: a clean Concerto and Outro rotation so your buffs land on the carry, and Echoes with the correct main stats. A team that is a tier lower on paper but rotates cleanly will out-score a stronger one that fumbles its buff windows.

What Whimpering Wastes actually rewards

Three things separate a top Wastes team from a merely strong one, in this order:

  • Area coverage, not single-target ceiling. The mode spawns packs and add-heavy waves. A carry whose big hits are single-target leaves most of the score on the floor. You want kits that sweep, pulse, or blanket an area.
  • Uptime across rooms. Score is total damage inside a clock. A team that has to reset its rotation every time it moves to a new pack bleeds time. The best comps keep off-field damage rolling and their carry ready to swing the moment enemies appear.
  • Element vs. the buff. Like the Tower, each Wastes rotation buffs a damage type and stacks enemies that feed it. A slightly weaker on-buff AoE team routinely out-scores a stronger off-buff one, so two built cores of different elements beat one perfect team.

Notice how little single-target burst appears on that list. That is the whole reason this tier list exists as its own page.

S-tier: the pack deleters

These max the current Wastes tiers with room to spare, on reasonable investment. Each one either sweeps wide or ramps into heavy area output.

Camellya Havoc bloom

Camellya is the archetype the Wastes were built to reward, and the home team is Camellya + Sanhua (or Roccia) + Shorekeeper (or Verina). Camellya is a long on-field carry who ramps into sweeping Havoc damage, and unlike a pure burst unit she keeps hitting the entire time she is on the field. A mode that gives her packs to chew through and a full clock to ramp against is her best-case scenario. On a Havoc-buffed rotation she is the top score on this list.

Jinhsi Spectro sweep

Jinhsi + Zhezhi (or Yuanwu) + Verina. Jinhsi's Incandescence payoff is a wide Spectro nuke, and the Wastes give her exactly the target density to make it land on a crowd instead of one enemy. Her one weakness in the Tower, needing a setup turn, barely matters here, because you have time and you are killing packs, not racing a stagger bar. On a Spectro rotation she is genuinely S-tier.

Xiangli Yao Electro quickswap

Xiangli Yao + Yinlin + Verina. The premier Electro quickswap core doubles as a Wastes monster because Yinlin's coordinated attacks and Xiangli Yao's burst both fan across grouped enemies. It rotates fast, holds tempo between packs, and empties into crowds without a long wind-up. Electro-buffed rooms are where it belongs, and it belongs there at the top.

A-tier: patch-proof, one requirement short of S

Fully able to cap the current reward tiers; each asks for the right buffed element, a specific partner, or a touch more execution.

  • Changli Fusion burst (Fusion). Changli + Brant (or Mortefi) + Shorekeeper. A self-sufficient Fusion carry with strong area coverage and a bit of her own sustain, and Brant frees the third slot by doubling as off-field damage and a healer. Floor-agnostic on any Fusion rotation.
  • Carlotta Glacio (Glacio). Carlotta + Zhezhi + Shorekeeper. The Tower's single-target queen is still excellent here because her charged windows clip groups well enough, and few things clear a mixed pack faster once she gets rolling. She simply sits a notch under the true AoE ramp carries when the packs are wide.
  • Qingxiao Tune Strain (Aero). Qingxiao + Denia + Shorekeeper (or Mornye). The Version 3.6 headliner is a burst-window specialist, which makes her more of a Tower unit, but on an Aero-buffed Wastes rotation her ceiling is high enough to carry a room. Rank her by the buff: S on Aero, A elsewhere. The current banner verdict rates her the same way.
  • Cartethyia flex carry. Cartethyia + a matching amp + Shorekeeper or Verina. Her whole selling point is that she is consistent across both endgame modes rather than a specialist, which makes her the safest single investment if you want one carry for everything. She covers a Wastes room every rotation and never falls out of relevance.

B-tier: the second core and the free clears

You will not top the board, but these cap the easier tiers and, more importantly, cover the other element while your S-tier core handles the hard room.

  • Encore or Havoc Rover budget AoE. A free or low-cost carry plus Sanhua plus Verina still sweeps the lower Wastes tiers. Slower, completely free, and perfect as a second core so you always have an on-element option.
  • Xuanling quickswap. The Xuanling core covers a room cleanly for accounts that invested in it; read the build guide for the intended rotation.
  • Calcharo Electro. The evergreen Electro burst carry still clears a Wastes room with Yinlin and a healer behind him. If you built him in an earlier patch, he is not dead weight.
  • Any Phoebe or Cantarella shell. Spectro and Havoc quickswap cores built on off-field damage cover their buffed rooms well; slot the healer you have.

Build for two rooms, not one

The mistake that costs most accounts a max score is the same one that costs them the Tower: pouring everything into a single team. Whimpering Wastes asks you to field damage across multiple rooms, each with a different element buff. Two solid on-element AoE cores beat one god team that is off-buff half the time.

The practical split: keep one S-tier sweep team as your anchor, then build a second core of a different element so you always have an on-buff option for the other room. Camellya plus an Electro or Fusion backup is a common pairing, because you rarely draw two Havoc rooms at once. When you are deciding who to build next, fill the element gap in your coverage, not the highest name on the list.

A few tuning notes that lift any of these comps:

  1. Group before you commit. Pull or funnel the pack together, then fire your widest ability into the cluster. AoE damage into a spread-out wave is half-wasted.
  2. Keep off-field damage rolling between packs. Do not let your sub-DPS and support skills sit idle while you reposition. Uptime is score.
  3. Read the rotation buff before you pick the team. The active element buff can swing a room by a full tier. Match your on-element AoE core to it.

For the wider theory these all rest on, the best team comps guide and the general WuWa tier list are the companions to this page, and the character tier list ranks each Resonator on raw strength. When you are deciding where to spend Astrite next, cross-check the current banner schedule so you build toward a slot your coverage is missing.
