Honkai: Star Rail 4.6 Preview: The Elation Wave, Sugilite, and What to Save For

Version 4.5 has not even landed and the 4.6 leaks are already loud. Here is what the datamines actually claim about Honkai: Star Rail's next patch, why the Path of Elation is suddenly everywhere, where Sugilite fits, and how to budget your Stellar Jade around a fall banner lineup that is still mostly rumor.

Let us be blunt about where this stands: almost nothing about Version 4.6 is confirmed. HoYoverse has not aired a preview program, has not published a kit, and has not stamped a date. What we do have is a consistent stream of datamines and reliable leakers pointing in the same direction, and that direction is interesting enough to plan around. So treat this as a map of the rumor, clearly labeled, not a patch note.

If you want the patch that is actually next in line, with reveals that have already cleared drip marketing, read our Version 4.5 breakdown of Robin Summeretto and Aventurine Waveflair first. This piece is about the one after that.

When 4.6 realistically lands

Star Rail has held a steady six-week patch cadence for a long time now. Working forward from the 4.4 launch on July 15 and a 4.5 update in late August, the math lands Version 4.6 in early October 2026, most likely the week of October 7. That is a projection off the cadence, not an announced date, and HoYoverse has slipped a patch by a few days before. The first hard confirmation always arrives with the official Special Program livestream, which airs roughly a week to ten days ahead of a patch, so watch the back half of September.

The Elation thread everyone is pulling on

The single most repeated claim across trackers is that the 4.5 to 4.6 stretch leans hard on the Path of Elation. Robin Summeretto already moved into Remembrance in 4.5, and the leaks put two Elation units across this window, with 4.6 carrying at least one of them. If that holds, it is a deliberate pattern, not a coincidence.

Why does that matter to your account? Elation is the follow-up-attack path, the one built around units that pile on extra hits whenever the team acts. A cluster of new Elation carries usually signals one of two things: either HoYoverse is seeding a fresh follow-up archetype it wants to sell teams around for the next half-year, or it is powercreeping the existing follow-up cores (think the Feixiao and Yunli style teams) with a newer, shinier engine. Both are reasons to slow down and evaluate rather than pull on reflex. We wrote about exactly this reflex in The Powercreep Panic, and a leaked Elation wave is the textbook trigger for it.

Where Sugilite fits

The name attached most consistently to this window is Sugilite, long expected as a late-October debut, which lines up cleanly with a 4.6 Phase 2 slot. Beyond the name and a rough timing, kit details are thin and change constantly at this stage, so we are not going to invent numbers for you. What is worth saying is that a Phase 2 debut of a long-teased character usually means the patch's marquee pull sits at the back half of the cycle, which changes how you pace your Jade if you also want an earlier banner.

A second name, Pearl, has floated for either 4.5 or 4.6, and a third, Nihilux, keeps getting pushed toward 4.7. All three carry the same asterisk: leakers themselves flag a real chance these slots shift. If a character's own dataminers are hedging, you should hedge harder.

What is actually safe to do right now

You cannot theorycraft a kit that does not exist yet, but you can get your account into a position where 4.6 is a choice instead of a scramble.

  • Bank Jade through 4.5's summer alts. Robin Summeretto and Aventurine Waveflair are flavor-forward alternate forms, not account-defining archetypes. If you are neutral on both characters, skipping them is the single easiest way to walk into 4.6 with a full pity and a fat reserve.
  • Do not pre-farm for a leak. It is tempting to start grinding relic domains for a rumored Elation carry, but relic sets and stat priorities routinely change between the first datamine and release. Farm for units you already own; save the Trailblaze Power gambling for after the kit is final.
  • Clear your free income. Simulated Universe, the endgame modes, event Jade, and the current codes all add up over a six-week gap. Grab them now so the reserve is real, not projected.
  • Watch the Special Program, not the leak threads. The moment the livestream airs, kits are locked, dates are stamped, and you can make a real decision. Everything before that is planning fuel, not a plan.

Our honest read

Version 4.6 looks like a fall patch built to sell an Elation package, headlined by a long-awaited debut in Sugilite, sitting behind a 4.5 patch that already wants your summer wallet. That is a lot of pressure stacked into two months. The players who come out of it happy will be the ones who decided in advance which single character they actually want and let everything else go. Save now, verify at the livestream, and check our HSR tier list once the kits are real so you are pulling for a slot in your account, not a hype cycle.
