You already know which substats to keep. The problem is getting enough relics to keep them. Relic farming is the longest grind in Honkai Star Rail, and most players quietly waste a chunk of it: running caverns one attempt at a time, letting ornament resources overflow, and hoarding trash relics that should have been fuel weeks ago. This is the efficient version.
Two piece types, two completely different sources
Your six relic slots come from two systems, and mixing them up is the first thing to fix.
The four-piece relic set (Head, Hands, Body, Feet) comes from the Cavern of Corrosion. Each cavern on the map is tied to a specific pair of relic sets, so you pick the cavern by the set you want, not at random.
The two-piece planar ornament set (Planar Sphere and Link Rope) comes from the Simulated Universe, not from caverns. No amount of cavern running will ever drop an ornament. This trips up newer Trailblazers constantly.
Everything below is organized around those two taps and how to open each one without spilling.
Caverns: always run at the highest multiplier
A Cavern of Corrosion attempt costs 40 Trailblaze Power and drops a couple of relics from that cavern's sets. The important feature is the reward multiplier: you can spend 2x or 6x the power in a single run for 2x or 6x the drops. Use it.
Running 6x (240 power in one go) gives the same relics as six separate 40-power runs, but with a fraction of the clicking and none of the temptation to fritter power away between refills. Once you have picked your target set from the relic and light cone overview, commit your power there in the largest batch you can afford.
A few habits that compound:
- Farm one set until a piece is genuinely done, then move on. Spreading power across three half-finished sets leaves you with nothing usable for a long time.
- Respect Trailblaze Power caps. Power fills continuously and stops at the cap, so wasted overflow is wasted farming. The Trailblaze Power guide covers how to schedule spends around your own login pattern.
- Reserved Trailblaze Power (the overflow bank) exists precisely so a busy week does not cost you a full day of relic drops. Let it fill instead of losing energy.
Ornaments: Immersifiers first, power second
Planar ornaments are earned by clearing Simulated Universe worlds and claiming the ornament reward with an Immersifier. Immersifiers regenerate over time up to a cap and reset on a schedule, so the golden rule is simple: never let your Immersifiers sit full. Any that overflow are ornament drops you will never get back, and there is no way to buy that time back later.
The routine that wastes nothing:
- Clear a Simulated Universe world you can beat comfortably. The blessing and Aeon choices that make this painless are covered in the Simulated Universe guide.
- Claim ornaments with your stored Immersifiers each time they build up.
- When you are out of Immersifiers but still want ornaments, you can spend Trailblaze Power to buy additional ornament claims. This is your overflow valve for a push before an endgame reset, but it competes with cavern farming for the same power, so use it deliberately.
Because Immersifiers regenerate whether you play or not, ornament farming is the one grind you should touch first each cycle. Empty the free resource before it caps, then decide how much power goes to caverns versus extra ornament claims.
The Omni-Synthesizer and Self-Modeling Resin
Two crafting tools quietly speed up the whole grind.
The Omni-Synthesizer lets you convert a stack of lower-rarity relics into a higher-rarity one, and convert relic materials between types. It turns the mountain of junk five-star and four-star relics you would otherwise ignore into targeted attempts at the piece you actually want. It will not hand you a perfect roll, but it stretches every farming session further.
Self-Modeling Resin is the premium item: it lets you synthesize a relic with a guaranteed main stat of your choice. This is enormous for the pieces where the main stat is the bottleneck, most famously a Planar Sphere with the right damage type or a Link Rope with Energy Regeneration. Resin is rare (it comes from events and limited shops), so spend it on the single hardest main stat to farm for your best carry, not on something you would have rolled into anyway.
Turn your trash into fuel
Here is the habit that saves the most time overall: decompose relics you will never use into relic EXP material. Every off-set, wrong-main-stat, garbage-substat relic is upgrade fuel for the ones you keep.
Leveling relics is expensive, and the number one reason players stall is running dry on EXP mats while sitting on a bag of unsalvaged junk. Set a rule for yourself: when your inventory fills, salvage everything that is not a keeper by the standards in the substat priority guide, and pour the EXP straight into your current build target. You will almost never run short again.
A weekly relic loop that wastes nothing
Put together, an efficient cycle looks like this:
- Ornaments first. Clear your Simulated Universe world and drain Immersifiers before they overflow.
- Caverns second. Dump the rest of your Trailblaze Power into one target cavern at 6x.
- Salvage. Decompose the losers into relic EXP and upgrade your keepers.
- Synthesize. Feed junk through the Omni-Synthesizer toward the piece you still need, and save Self-Modeling Resin for the one impossible main stat.
- Bank the overflow. Let Reserved Trailblaze Power catch anything you could not spend today.
None of this makes the perfect relic drop faster, because variance is variance. What it does is guarantee that every hour of energy actually produces relics, EXP, and attempts instead of leaking value at the edges. Do this for a few weeks and your whole roster gears up noticeably faster.
