Managing Satisfactory Save Files
How to upload, download, and manage save files for your Satisfactory dedicated server.
Understanding Satisfactory Saves
Satisfactory stores your factory progress in save files. Knowing how to manage these is essential for:
- Transferring single-player worlds to multiplayer
- Backing up before major changes
- Moving between servers
- Recovering from issues
Save File Location
On Your PC (Single-Player)
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\[SteamID]\On the Server
/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/Save files have the extension .sav
Transferring Single-Player to Server
Move your existing factory to your dedicated server:
Step 1: Find Your Save
- Press
Win + R - Type
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames - Open your Steam ID folder
- Find your
.savfile (most recent by date)
Step 2: Upload to Server
- Go to your server's File Manager
- Navigate to
/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/ - Upload your
.savfile - Note the filename
Step 3: Load the Save
- Join your server
- Open Server Manager (Escape menu)
- Go to Save/Load
- Select your uploaded save
- Click Load
Your factory is now on the server!
Downloading Server Saves
Backup your server progress to your PC:
Via File Manager
- Open File Manager tab
- Navigate to
/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/ - Find your save file
- Click Download
Via Backup System
- Go to Backups tab
- Create or select a backup
- Click Download
This downloads a full server backup including saves.
Multiple Save Files
The server can store multiple saves:
- Create different saves for different bases
- Keep milestone backups (e.g., "BeforeNuclear.sav")
- Test ideas without risking main save
Creating Named Saves
In-game:
- Open Server Manager
- Go to Save/Load
- Click Save Game
- Enter descriptive name (e.g., "MainFactory_Jan6")
Automatic Backups
HostedGG automatically backs up your server:
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Frequency | Every 6 hours |
| Retention | 7 days |
| Storage | Doesn't count against quota |
Access backups in the Backups tab.
Best Practices
- Before major changes: Create manual backup
- Weekly: Download a backup to your PC
- Before experiments: Save with clear name like "BeforeExperiment"
Save File Troubleshooting
Save Won't Load
Causes:
- Version mismatch (Stable vs Experimental)
- Corrupted save file
- Permissions issue
Solutions:
- Ensure game version matches save version
- Try loading an older save/backup
- Check file permissions
Save Appears Empty
Cause: Loading wrong save file
Solution: Check the file date—most recent save should have your progress. If you uploaded single-player, ensure it's loaded (not a blank server save).
"Session Not Found"
Cause: Server created new session instead of loading save
Solution:
- Stop the server
- Verify save file exists in correct location
- Restart and manually load via Server Manager
Recovering from Issues
Factory Broken by Experiment
- Stop the server
- Go to Backups tab
- Find backup from before the issue
- Click Restore
- Restart server
Corrupted Save
- Check if in-game autosaves exist
- Try loading autosave instead of manual save
- If all corrupt, restore from backup
Complete Data Loss
If saves and backups are both gone:
- Contact support immediately
- We may have additional backup copies
- This is rare with our backup system
Tips for Safe Saving
- Name saves clearly - "MainBase_Week3" not "save1"
- Save before logging off - Ensures progress is written
- Don't save during lag - Could corrupt save
- Download backups regularly - Your ultimate safety net
