Enshrouded Server Setup Guide
Step-by-step guide to setting up and connecting to your Enshrouded dedicated server on HostedGG. Covers server creation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Creating Your Enshrouded Server
Setting up an Enshrouded dedicated server on HostedGG takes under 2 minutes. Follow these steps to get your group into Embervale.
Step 1: Choose a Plan
Enshrouded is demanding on RAM, especially with voxel terrain changes and multiple players:
| Plan | RAM | Best For | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 12 GB | 1-6 players, casual groups | €15.99/mo |
| Standard | 16 GB | 6-16 players, community servers | €24.99/mo |
| Performance | 24 GB | 16 players, heavy building | €34.99/mo |
All plans include a 3-day free trial with no credit card required.
Step 2: Server Configuration
After ordering, your server deploys in under 60 seconds. Configure these settings in the Startup tab of your control panel:
- Server Name — appears in the in-game server browser
- Server Password — leave empty for public servers, set a password for private
- Max Players — up to 16 (depends on your plan)
- Game Port — default is 15636 (auto-configured)
- Query Port — default is 15637 (auto-configured)
Step 3: Connect to Your Server
There are two ways to connect:
Method 1: In-Game Browser (Easiest)
- Launch Enshrouded
- Click Play → Join
- Search for your server name
- Enter the password if set
- Click Join
Method 2: Steam Server Browser (Direct IP)
- Open Steam → View → Servers
- Click Favorites → Add A Server
- Enter your server IP and query port (e.g.,
1.2.3.4:15637) - Click Add This Address To Favorites
- Select the server and click Connect
Your server IP and ports are shown in the Network tab of your control panel.
Server File Structure
Enshrouded stores its data in these key locations:
| Path | Contents |
|---|---|
/enshrouded_server.json | Main server configuration file |
/savegame/ | World save data (terrain, buildings, progress) |
/logs/ | Server log files for debugging |
Managing Your Server
Starting and Stopping
Use the Power controls in your control panel:
- Start — boots the server (takes 30-60 seconds)
- Stop — graceful shutdown, saves world data
- Restart — stops and starts, useful after config changes
- Kill — force stops (use only if server is unresponsive)
Automatic Backups
Backups run automatically on HostedGG. You can also create manual backups:
- Go to the Backups tab
- Click Create Backup
- Backups include your full world save, buildings, and configuration
To restore a backup, select it from the list and click Restore.
Updating the Server
Enshrouded receives regular updates from Keen Games. Your server updates automatically when restarted. If an update is available:
- Stop your server
- Click Reinstall in the control panel (this only updates server files, not your save)
- Start the server
Your world data is preserved during updates.
Troubleshooting
Server not showing in browser
- Ensure the server has fully started (check console for "Server is ready")
- Verify the query port (15637) is correct
- Try the direct IP connection method instead
- Wait 2-3 minutes after startup for the server to register
Players can't connect
- Check that the server password matches what players are entering
- Verify the server isn't full (check max player setting)
- Ensure the game version matches between server and client (update both)
Server crashes or freezes
- Check the Console tab for error messages
- With 16 players and heavy building, ensure you have enough RAM (16 GB+ recommended)
- Create a backup and try restarting
- If crashes persist, contact support on Discord
Quick Setup Checklist
- Order a plan (12 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended)
- Set server name and password in Startup tab
- Start the server and wait for "Server is ready"
- Connect via in-game browser or direct IP
- Invite friends and start exploring Embervale
