FAQ

WoW Forever, answered

Forever was announced at BlizzCon on September 12, 2026, so most of what circulates about it right now is inference. These are the parts Blizzard has actually confirmed.

What is World of Warcraft: Forever?
Forever is a third permanent version of World of Warcraft, sitting alongside Modern (Retail) and Classic rather than replacing either. It launches November 4, 2026. The pitch is a return to Azeroth as a place rather than a backdrop: a level 60 cap, no single heroic throughline, and progression that expects you to wander. It is not a fresh Classic server and it is not a Retail expansion. It is its own client with its own content.
Do I need to buy anything to play WoW Forever?
No. An active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time gives you access from November 4 with no separate purchase. The upgrade packs are optional and buy you the Skyborne race, early name reservation, beta access and cosmetics, not entry to the game.
When does the WoW Forever beta start and end?
The beta runs September 17, 2026 through October 21, 2026. It opens at a level 20 cap rather than 30: Blizzard developers Clay Stone and Nora Mills said in an interview that the cap rises to 30 after roughly two weeks. Beta characters are not expected to transfer to the live game.
How do I get into the beta for free?
Opt in from the official WoW Forever page, sign in with the Battle.net account your WoW licence is on, and request access. It costs nothing, but it is not guaranteed: Blizzard adds players in waves across the test. Guaranteed access only comes with the Skyborne Epic Pack or the Warcraft Forever Collection.
What is the level cap in WoW Forever?
Level 60 at launch, the same cap the game shipped with in 2004, and Blizzard has said it is not going up. The beta is a separate number: it opens at 20 and rises to 30 about two weeks in.
Which WoW Forever pack should I buy?
If you want to play on September 17, the Skyborne Epic Pack at $59.99 is the cheapest guaranteed beta access. If you only care about launch, the $29.99 Heroic Pack covers the Skyborne race and name reservation for half that. The $79.99 Warcraft Forever Collection adds Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign and nothing extra for Forever itself, so buy it for those or skip it.
Is WoW Forever replacing Classic or Retail?
No. Blizzard has positioned it as a permanent third option, so Classic servers and the Modern game both continue. Your existing characters stay where they are.
Does WoW Forever have realms or servers?
No. Forever is realmless: instead of picking a server you pick a playstyle, and everyone on that playstyle shares one version of the world. Three are available at launch, PvE (which Blizzard’s written recap calls Normal), PvP and Roleplaying, with Hardcore following later. You can only group, run dungeons and raid with people on the same playstyle, and factions stay separate as they always have. Characters get a first and a last name, which is how Blizzard is handling name scarcity without realm-by-realm duplicates.
Is there a WoW Token or a character boost in WoW Forever?
No, and Blizzard says there are no plans for either. Associate Production Director Clay Stone put it as the journey being the game: you get better at WoW by playing it, so a service that skips it does not fit. Blizzard has also cut the experience dungeon monsters give while raising what dungeon quests give, specifically to make repeat dungeon grinding a worse way to level than the open world.
When is early name reservation?
October 27 to November 3, 2026, for anyone who bought an upgrade pack. It is the one genuinely time-sensitive part of a pre-purchase, because names go first come, first served.

Still deciding?

The beta guide covers both routes into the September 17 test, and the pack comparison says which upgrade is worth the money and which is not.
