Palworld 1.0 Complete Guide: New Features, Endgame, and What to Do First
Table of Contents

Palworld 1.0 launched on July 10, 2026, and it is enormous: 27 pages of patch notes, 72 new Pals, two new zones, a reworked endgame, and two brand new progression systems. It also broke Steam records for the year, peaking above 855,000 concurrent players. The best news for veterans: your existing world carries over with no forced wipe, so nothing you built is gone. This guide covers everything 1.0 adds and, more importantly, the smartest order to tackle it in.

Short on time? The three things worth doing first are: fly up to the Sky Islands, start Awakening your main team, and run Genetic Recombination on your best Pals. Everything below explains why.

Everything new in 1.0, at a glance

  • Sky Islands: a floating region above the Palpagos Islands with vertical exploration and new Pals.
  • The World Tree: the centerpiece of a rebuilt endgame and a serious high-level challenge.
  • 72 new Pals, including standouts like the Sky Dragon, Sword Eel, Tree Guardian, and Giant Whale.
  • Awakening: unlock your Pals' hidden potential with Radiant Gems for new moves, abilities, and higher stats.
  • Genetic Recombination: a deeper breeding layer that combines genes from Legendary Pals into stronger, more distinctive offspring.
  • Reworked tower bosses, more dynamic and engaging than the old versions.
  • Water building: long-awaited water foundations and furniture, plus new structure sets and decorations.

Returning player? Do this first

Your base, Pals, and progress are intact, so you are not restarting, you are expanding. The right first moves:

  1. Head to the Sky Islands. This is the fresh content your existing character is best positioned to enjoy. Grab a flying mount and go explore, because the new Pals and materials up there feed everything else.
  2. Start Awakening your core team. If you already have a strong roster, awakening your main damage dealers and workers is the single biggest power spike in 1.0. Track down Radiant Gems and prioritize the Pals you actually use.
  3. Recombine your best breeders. If you kept a stable of high-quality or Legendary Pals, Genetic Recombination lets you fold their best genes together. This is where your old breeding investment pays off. Our breeding guide still covers the fundamentals the new system builds on.
  4. Retry the towers. The tower bosses were reworked, so even if you cleared them in Early Access, they are worth revisiting for the new fight design.

New player? The fast track

Coming in cold at 1.0 is a great time to start, because everything is here and there is no wipe hanging over you. Keep it simple early:

  • Catch a mount and a few worker Pals first (mining, logging, transport) so your base runs itself while you explore.
  • Follow the early tech tree for a Palbox, beds, and food, then a stone base. Our base building guide gets you a self-sufficient camp fast.
  • Do not rush toward the Sky Islands or World Tree; they are endgame. Build your level and your first strong team first, using the Palworld tier list to pick keepers.

The big new systems, explained

Awakening and Radiant Gems

Awakening is 1.0's flagship power system. You find Radiant Gems in a special mystical area and use them to awaken a Pal, unlocking new moves, extra abilities, and higher stats. Because gems are a limited resource, spend them on Pals you will keep long term, your main combat Pals and your most-used workers, rather than sprinkling them around. For the full method and where to farm gems, see our Awakening guide.

Genetic Recombination

Breeding got a new top layer. Genetic Recombination lets you combine genes from Legendary Pals to produce offspring with stronger stats and unique traits, pushing your best Pals past what old breeding could reach. The workflow is the same idea as before, just deeper: build up quality parents, then recombine to concentrate their best genes. If you are new to the breeding loop, start with the breeding guide before diving into recombination.

Intel
[!NOTE] Awakening and Genetic Recombination stack. A recombined, high-stat Pal that is then awakened is the strongest thing you can field in 1.0, and it is the real endgame goal for min-maxers.

Sky Islands and the World Tree

The two new zones bookend the new content. The Sky Islands float above the map and are the more approachable of the two, with fresh Pals, materials, and vertical traversal that rewards a good flying mount. The World Tree anchors the reworked endgame and is a genuine step up in difficulty, so treat it as the destination you gear toward, not your first stop. Awaken and recombine your team, then take on the World Tree.

New Pals worth chasing

Among the 72 additions, a few are already standouts: the Sky Dragon (a strong flyer and mount), the Sword Eel, the Tree Guardian, and the Giant Whale. Prioritize catching a reliable flyer early so the Sky Islands open up, then hunt the rest as you explore.

Water building

Base builders finally get water-based building: new foundations and furniture designed to sit on water, alongside new structure sets and decorations. If you have a coastal or lakeside base, 1.0 is the time to expand out over the water. Combine it with the layouts in our base building guide for a camp that actually uses the new pieces.

Multiplayer and servers in 1.0

Existing multiplayer worlds carry over too, so shared bases and progress are safe. If you run a dedicated server, update it to the 1.0 build before your group jumps back in, and expect a busy first few weeks given the launch numbers. Our server hosting guide covers setup and updates if you want a stable private world for the new content.

Where to go next

Palworld 1.0 is a lot of game, and the smart path is: expand into the Sky Islands, awaken and recombine your core team, then take that team to the World Tree. Keep the Palworld wiki and tier list open as you rebuild your roster, and if you are still deciding whether to jump back in, our Palworld review covers how the full release holds up.
