Understanding Palworld Breeding

Breeding is one of the most powerful systems in Palworld. It lets you create stronger Pals, unlock exclusive Fusion Pals, and pass down valuable traits. This guide covers everything you need to master breeding.

Breeding Basics

Requirements

To start breeding, you need:

  1. Breeding Farm - Unlocked at Technology Level 19
  2. Cake - Made at the Cooking Pot (requires flour, eggs, milk, honey, berries)
  3. Two compatible Pals - One male, one female
  4. Patience - Breeding takes time

How Breeding Works

  1. Build a Breeding Farm at your base
  2. Place a male and female Pal inside
  3. Add a Cake to the chest
  4. Wait for the egg to appear
  5. Incubate the egg at an Egg Incubator
  6. Hatch your new Pal!

Important: Each breeding cycle consumes one Cake. Stock up before starting a breeding project.

Breeding Power System

Every Pal has a hidden Breeding Power value that determines offspring outcomes.

How It Works

When two Pals breed:

  • The game calculates the average Breeding Power
  • The offspring is the Pal closest to that average

Breeding Power Tiers

TierBreeding Power RangeExample Pals
Low1000-1300Lamball, Cattiva, Chikipi
Medium500-999Penking, Mossanda, Elizabee
High200-499Anubis, Shadowbeak
Legendary10-199Jetragon, Paladius

Strategy: To get specific Pals, aim for parents whose combined Breeding Power averages near your target.

Fusion Pals (Exclusive Breeding)

Some Pals can ONLY be obtained through specific breeding combinations. These are Fusion Pals.

Stat Inheritance and IVs

Understanding IVs

Every Pal has hidden Individual Values (IVs) affecting:

  • HP
  • Attack
  • Defense
  • Work Speed

IVs range from 0-100, with higher being better.

How Stats Pass Down

When breeding:

  • Each stat is inherited from one parent (random)
  • There's a small chance for mutation (slight increase/decrease)
  • Passive Skills have their own inheritance rules

Breeding for Perfect IVs

  1. Catch many of the same Pal - Find ones with high individual stats
  2. Selective breeding - Breed best HP Pal with best Attack Pal
  3. Repeat - Each generation, pick the best offspring
  4. Goal: A Pal with 80+ in all stats

Pro Tip: This can take many generations. Use a dedicated server running 24/7 for continuous breeding!

Passive Skills Inheritance

How Passives Work

  • Each Pal can have up to 4 Passive Skills
  • Skills have different rarities (common to legendary)
  • Offspring can inherit skills from either parent

Best Passive Skills

SkillEffectRarity
Legend+20% Attack, +20% Defense, +15% MovementLegendary
Lucky+15% Attack, +15% Work SpeedRare
Workaholic+50% SAN depletion rate BUT more efficientEpic
Runner+30% Movement SpeedCommon
Musclehead+30% Attack, -50% Work SpeedCommon (combat only)
Artisan+50% Work SpeedRare

Breeding for Passives

  1. Catch parents with desired passives
  2. Breed them together
  3. Offspring may inherit 0-4 skills from the combined pool
  4. Repeat until you get the perfect combo

Tip: Breeding two Pals with the same passive increases chances of inheritance.

Breeding Farm Setup

Basic Setup

  • Place Breeding Farm in a covered area (rain slows breeding)
  • Keep a Hot Spring nearby for comfort
  • Assign a Pal with Kindling to keep the farm warm
  • Storage chest for Cakes next to farm

Mass Production

For serious breeding projects:

  • Build 3-4 Breeding Farms
  • Run parallel breeding lines
  • Stock 20+ Cakes before starting
  • Use fast travel to check multiple bases

Common Breeding Mistakes

1. Running Out of Cakes

Cakes are expensive. Make sure you have:

  • Wheat farm for flour
  • Ranch for eggs and milk
  • Beehive for honey
  • Berry plantation

2. Wrong Gender Pairing

Need one male and one female. Check before assigning!

3. Ignoring Passives

A Pal with Legend + Lucky beats raw stats every time. Prioritize passive breeding.

4. Not Incubating Eggs

Eggs don't hatch by themselves. Build an Incubator and check it regularly.

5. Breeding Dead Ends

Some breeding combinations don't produce useful offspring. Check a calculator first.

Breeding Tips for Multiplayer

Dedicated Server Advantages

  • 24/7 Breeding: Eggs progress while you're offline
  • Shared Resources: Clan members can contribute Cakes
  • Parallel Projects: Multiple players breed different lines
  • Trading: Exchange high-IV Pals with friends

Coordination Tips

  • Use Discord to call dibs on rare catches
  • Share breeding calculators and targets
  • Designate one base as the "breeding hub"
  • Tag eggs with notes about expected offspring

Breeding Calculator Strategy

Use online breeding calculators to:

  1. Enter your available Pals
  2. See all possible offspring
  3. Plan multi-step breeding chains
  4. Find shortest path to target Pal
