Team Fortress 2 is an anomaly. In an era where live-service games die in months, TF2 is pushing 20 years strong. Why? Because of the Community.

While Valve (mostly) maintains the base game, the community has turned TF2 into a platform for everything from horror games to kart racers. If you're looking to spice up your server or just want to see why this game refuses to quit, check out these 5 legendary game modes that you can host right now.

1. Versus Saxton Hale (VSH)

** The Concept:** One player becomes Saxton Hale, the ultra-masculine CEO of Mann Co. He has massive health, super jumps, and one-hit-kill punches. The other 23 players ("The Mercs") must work together to take him down.

Why It's Viral: It turns TF2 into a Raid Boss encounter. The sheer adrenaline of being the last Scout alive against an angry Australian CEO is unmatched.

Intel
[!TIP] Hosting Tip: Since the Summer 2023 update, VSH is officially supported by Valve scripts, making it easier than ever to host on your own server!

2. x10 Mode (and x100)

The Concept: Every weapon stat is multiplied by 10.

  • The Kunai gives you 1HP but massive overheal on stab.
  • The Beggar's Bazooka loads infinitely fast but has zero accuracy.
  • The Splendid Screen charge does enough damage to kill god.

Why It's Critical: It's pure, unadulterated chaos. Strategies go out the window, and the meta becomes "what is the most broken thing I can find?" It's hilarious, fast-paced, and perfect for streamers.

3. Slender Fortress

The Concept: Yes, survival horror in TF2. Players are stripped of weapons and must collect pages/objectives in dark, terrifying maps while being stalked by monsters (Slenderman, Weeping Angels, etc.).

Why It's Viral: It completely changes the genre. Hearing the "static" noise as Slenderman approaches induces genuine panic. It's a fantastic mode for late-night gaming sessions with friends.

4. Prop Hunt

The Concept: The classic Hide & Seek. The RED team disguises themselves as map props (a cone, a tree, a control point). The BLU team must hunt them down. If BLU attacks a non-player prop, they take damage.

Why It's Fun: The juke potential. There is nothing funnier than running around as a filing cabinet whilst a Pyro chases you with a flamethrower.

5. Randomizer

The Concept: You spawn as a random class with a random loadout.

  • A Heavy with a Sniper Rifle.
  • A Scout with a Minigun.
  • An Engineer with... a Knife?

Why It Works: It levels the playing field. Even the best players struggle when they spawn as a Spy with a Rocket Jumper and no Rockets. It forces you to adapt and leads to some cursed visual glitches (Scout holding a Minigun is always funny).
